Ariantha, Tiefling Warlock
Grew up with her half elven mother on the streets of Penthos. The city has many labor districts and is one of the largest cities on the continent. Her mother makes sure to never mention her father but everyone who meets them gives both of them a concerned look. Some are condescending, some judgemental, some merely sympathetic but everyone has an opinion on the young half-elven woman and her tiefling daughter.
When Ariantha reached school age she was allowed to attend by the grace of her mother's employer. An administrator working for House Durrilan who employed her mother for seamstress work and house keeping. Luckily Ari excelled at school. When she turned 15 she was granted a scholarship at the prestigious Vellen University in Vellen Falls.
Those first two years at university were some of the best of Ari's life. New friends and acceptance of her lineage made things easier. Once more she showed an aptitude for learning and her classwork.
By Junior year her and her friends had found an ancient room deep in the depths of the university grounds. A strange book began to call to them. It looked like a game at first, but after prolonged usage the book began to take on strange properties. Elements of the game involved speaking into the book while the book created text on the page, sometimes answering questions sometimes just transcribing the words spoken.
One day Ari was playing the game with a couple of friends, speaking questions into the book. Then the book spoke back… Her friends couldn't hear it. A panic seized her and she attempted to throw the book and flee. Spectral hands grasped her own and held her tight. Glowing eyes locked with her own and she entered a trance like state. Energy lashed out in all directions striking her friends and the walls of the underground chamber. Ari finally shook off the strange feeling and dashed to her friends rescue, she escorted her wounded friends back to their room.
Things got stranger from there, vivid dreams, strange voices, shadows moving in strange ways. Her friends parents began to ask for her expulsion after the incident. She was proving to be a danger, her tiefling heritage wasn't helping either. Eventually Vellen University caved to the pressure and turned her away. On the streets of Vellen Falls she wandered for a few days. Her first real experience with her new powers was when a thief grabbed her, knocked her down and tried to take her bag.
A white hot fury gripped her and green energy rushed forth from her hands knocking the thief into a wall and rendering him unconscious. With the guards rushing in to investigate Ari fled, booking passage on a ship. A feeling, an impulse was drawing her west…
