An ancient prophecy dating back to the Merethic Era states that The Thousand-Year Evil was once a mortal woman named Zarxia Carimza who made a pact with a Daedra to become immortal, but it cost her sanity. She sought revenge against the Daedra, eventually confronting and defeating him, upon which she used ancient magic older than man or mer to siphon his power into her. Whether this is true is unknown, but her power and influence are apparent nonetheless.

History

When Jessa Terallia was six, she fell while playing and blacked out. During her unconsciousness, The Thousand-Year Evil spoke to her and befriended the young girl, saying that she would protect her from danger in return for living inside her.
Over the following years, Zarxia would indeed make good on her promise; whenever Jessa was in mortal danger, the Evil would grant her incredible strength and near-invulnerability, allowing her to escape even the direst of situations. However, as time passed, Jessa began to realize who the spirit really was, and sought to free herself from the Evil's influence. Unable to find a way to permanently rid herself of the entity, she decided it would be best to use the relationship to her advantage for as long as she could.
