Dracorage Plague Condition in Tamavara | World Anvil

Dracorage Plague

The Dracorage Plague was a magically induced disease that only effected the dragons of Tamavara and no other creatures of the world. It turned the normal, intelligent dragonkind into savage monsters that would attack anyone on sight while also raiding villages, towns and even large cities killing and collecting for their horde. During the time of the Dracorage Plague, many brave adventurers took on the task of killing these now savage monsters in order to rid the land of their terror. However, a cure for the plague was discovered by a council of powerful arcane spellcasters. This cure involved conducting a ritual that would siphon the arcane energy through a single magic user and into a sleeping dragon, transforming their massive bodies into a more humanoid form, which seemingly quenches their rage and returns them back to an creature of reason and intelligence. This process could only be done to a hand full of the remaining dragons, due to only a few powerful magic users willing to sacrifice their arcane energy into these creatures. Also so many had already been killed off by adventures before a cure had even been found.

Dragonkin Now

Dragons are now considered completely extincted. There are stories and myths that there are still large savage dragons that roam the world causing havoc, but none of these stories have been proven. As for the transformed dragons, known as Dragonborn, they are considered legend also, a way to explain away the power magic of old. Lesser dragons, or wyvern excist, but are so rare that they aren't considered a real threat. And their lowest brethren the drakes, they are still a common sight in Tamavara. Most aren't any bigger then large birds or dogs. Some are even trained as pets and guard animals.
