General Summary
Main Plots
The group are ordered by King Silas to investigate strange goings on in the small city of Breah.
The Runemen
After stopping at the scheduled resupply point of Thubrith Oakfury's tavern the Chubby Papaya in the Village of Sord. The group are attacked by a crazed man with glowing arcane runes named Jorah Rogan. (Session 1)
The Group discover a plot to take over Breah with Runemen using ancient knowledge from the Iskelian Empire that collapsed a thousand years earlier.
After being seduced by Lyanna Lovair the owner of the Lover's Purse Hanurak is kidnapped by her and a man named Orryn Timbers. The two of them begin the process of converting him into a runeman rescued by his friends before the process can be completed he is taken to Halin the librarian who recommends he drinks Dwarf Rot once a day in order to stave off the worst affects of the curse while leaving him with slightly increased strength along with periodic visions of Fire Elementals laying waste to the world courtesy of Orryn Timbers. This vision is very similar to the events Andre and Astraea experienced at Waterdeep leading them to believe that the two visions are connected (Session 0, 3 & 4)
Faen the wizard discovers that his spellbook Cuive is the transferred soul of the wizard who originally stopped the Empire's expansion by removing the runemen curse using the fabled Orb of Galthak and the living souls of his countrymen in the Galthak Republic.
Cuivie tells the group that the completed Orb has a sufficient charge to stop maybe a few hundred runemen. He also tells the group that his friend and ally during the War Gwyn Sunsword broke up the Orb of Galthak into 5 pieces, the Amulet of Wotash and a four crystal segments, and gifted them to his Four Lieutenants, Gheelan Blackhand, Brattin of the Wastes, Taliesin of the Plains and Theodar Oakfury. (Session 8)
So far the group have found the Amulet of Wotash in the Mansion of Colonel Sandmere and one of the segments in the tomb of Gheelan Blackhand. (Session 5 & 7)
The Order of Draco
After meeting with an Orc named Krug in Breah's jail who protests his innocence over killing his wife. Further questioning by the group reveals that his wife was killed by an assassin wielding a dragon hilted dagger. Astraea the Sorcerer recognises it as being very similar to her ancient family crest.
The group are told by Saresh Foun commander of the Vult in Breah that the symbol is that of the Order of Draco. A group of assassins known for their ruthlessness to get their target regardless of collateral damage, when they feel it's necessary. She recounts the story of the City of Bazaar Ladh where they plane shifted the cliff the city rested on causing it to plummet into the sea as a demand for payment from the Khan of the Gashak Horde Kroz'duan after he refused to pay for the assassination that got him on the throne.
Following a request for services from a Drow named Tarrius who was searching for the Amulet of Wotash the group find a dagger of the order in the house of a Colonel Sandemere. When Faen and Hanurak hold the dagger they only hear whispers emanate from it but when Astraea holds it she hers voices pleading her to help and join them along with a vision of dragonborn refugees being taken in by her home city of Gravitui Lathir, their banishment along with some elves and their subsequent return to break a siege around the city.
The group meet an assassin who refers to Astraea as Mother and calls her Elanil after defeating the assassin in the Governor's Palace Astraea gains two daggers that gives her the vision of a woman with her face leading groups of assassins and killing unsuspecting targets. Upon inspection she notices that the dagger from the assassin matches the one used to kill Krug's Wife (session 8)
The Church of Sunlight
Following the spread of the runemen curse it has reached the highest ranks of the church of sunlight in Breah leading the commander of the Church Ninki Laresh being accused of heresy and jailed pending trial along with the paladin Artorias Gwynblade. Following their daring escape with the help of the druid Valanthe the two are currently in hiding in the city trying to marshal forces to take back their church.
NPCs
Thorbrith Oakfury
Jolly dwarf who owns the Chubby Papaya, high level member of the Vult. Known for flamboyant displays of lightning and wielding a great war hammer and a shield that fights on its own.
Ninki Laresh
A rather serious Dragonborn, she is the former head of the Church of Sunlight in Breah. Currently in hiding after being charged for heresy and corrupting fellow paladins to become runemen.
Saresh Foun
Commander of the Vult in Breah. She has been a useful character for the group so far, providing information where appropriate as well as backup when needed. Currently feels in debt to the group for saving her life.
Orryn Timbers
Little is known for certain about this NPC except that he is the father in law to Jorah Rogan the berseker the group first encountered. He knows Jorah's mistress Lyanna and he turned both Hanurak and Jorah into Runemen. He also claims to know something about Astraea's heritage.
Cool Moments
Andre
During their quest to find a way to defeat the Fire Elemental Shango in Waterdeep Andre sacrificed himself at her temple without hesitation for his friends Astraea and Rashal by diving into a pool of roiling water.
Artorias
During his escape from prison he single handedly collapsed a section of tunnel he was travelling through causing the ground to subside above and collapse one corner of the governor's mansion.
Astraea
While invisible she sneaked her way into the Temple of the Surtmaekir outside Breah where she provided vital intelligence on what's inside and dispatched one of guards at the doorway while Faen removed the other. And in a bonus horrific moment during the subsequent fight in the temple she managed to boil alive a paladin inflicted with Tasha's Hideous Laughter in the brazier at the center of the room.
Faen
Using advanced team work with Hanurak the Barbarian and Astraea the Sorcerer that while she cast haste on Hanurak to get him an extra action at the last moment he would hit the Oni they were fighting with a fireball that did critical damage crippling the monster and allowing his to vapourize it as it tried to flee in gaseous form.
Hanurak
After seeing Saresh Foun be taken down a 45 degree 1000ft shaft by the giant spider they had just killed he decided to throw caution to the wind and use Artorias' shield to surf his way down the shaft dodging stalagmites and fallen rocks to land with only a few broken bones at the bottom.
Valanthe
During the daring escape from the Church of Sunlight, when the group found their way blocked by a rusted over sealed manhole cover Valanthe decided to use her elven nimbleness and strength to parkour up the shaft and kick her way through the hatch.
