Session 4 - Trials and Tribulations

General Summary

Faen joins Astraea and Andre after picking up a bill of 500 gold for his activities with Marsha and Iskel which he charged to the Church of Sunlight.   They all decide to find Hanurak and as they approach his room they see Orin entering. Faen with a boost of bravado and a smart use of magic manages to get to the door and confront Orin and Nearra not appreciating how out matched he is, he finds his spells countered by Orryn leaving them dispelled in his hand.   He sees Hanurak passed out on the bed with runes quickly appearing on his skin. Astraea and Andre catch up and also confront Orin and Nearra who deny all knowledge before holding the group in a force cage and making their escape through a portal.   After their failure to rescue Hanurak the group decide to go back to the Two Brewers and speak to Saresh to see what she knows and what insight she can provide on where Orryn might have gone. As they arrive Faen, Andre and Astraea find the Two Brewers has been raided in the night by the Blue Coats. She has managed to kill two men covered in the runes from the Blue Coats. Andre checks the body and notices the runes are similar to the blood hunter rites he undertook and that the spells are obviously blood based. The group rest overnight and speak to Saresh in the morning of what happened at the Lovers Purse and she informs us that Orin is a professor at the unseen university. They also show her the picture of the dagger hilt Krug drew for Hanurak and she informs them that it is used by the Draco assassins and warns to stay as far away from them as possible telling the group stories of how they are known to destroy entire cities in order to get their target.   The friends then decide to head back to the tomb of Gwyn Sunsword accompanied by Brenfine the bard and investigate it further on the belief that Hanurak may have been taken there.   As they approach they see 4 guards patrolling, Faen turns Astraea invisible so she can scout out the area. As she enters the first room she notices that it has been turned into a makeshift barracks for the gnolls. She also picks up bracers of gleaming similar to those worn by the Paladins. As she continues into a long corridor she uses Mage hand to disarm the traps and looking into the other room she sees a large hairy wizard holding an orb over Hanuraks body.   She heads back to the others and after taking nourishment they decide to attack. While still invisible Astraea slits one of the guards throats while Faen runs in and lands killing blow to the other. Dragging the bodies down the stairs they enter the barracks.   Just then more guards arrive in the forms of a gnoll and two of the Church of Sunlight Paladins that went missing. The Paladins have the runes etched onto them. Knowing that the two Paladins lack darkvision Faen and the bard extinguish the torches the guards are holding and the fire in the centre of the room plunging it into darkness. The fight is quickly over with Faen taking one paladin out by fear and the other is taken out by mocking laughter. Astraea finishes the last paladin him by placing him into the large cooking pot with the other bodies and placing the lid on the still giggling man.   Entering the large room at the end of the corridor they can see the orb hanging in mid air so Astraea shoots it out of the air causing it to explode. The wizard they can now see is a lycanthrope uses mind control on Hanurak to cause him to fight us he then turns invisible and heals Hanurak throughout the battle. They attack Hanurak luckily managing to stop him from attacking back with Faen's Magic.   After a much tougher fight then any of the guards put up Faen manages to make Hanurak sleep but only after inflicting a harsh beating and setting his clothes on fire. They escape the temple and return to the Two Brewers with Andre carrying Hanurak only to find the tavern ablaze.   Saresh explains that the blue coats have come back and that it is not safe but she knows a safe place that the group could go to heal Hanurak. They arrive at a house owned by Hallin the librarian Astraea and Faen met to get their licenses. Everything is explained to him and he notices that one rune is missing from Hanuraks body that of the school of necromancy. Hallin says he will help the group and gives Hanurak some dwarf rot to stop the runes from taking control of him again. Hanurak has no memory of what occurred to him and as they leave Hallin for the night the friends have much to think about
