Councillor Oles Vivek Character in Talitha Harbor | World Anvil

Councillor Oles Vivek

Councillor Oles Vivek (a.k.a. Olly)

One of the Council of Thirteen. Councillor Vivek was voted in by Health Services Vocation on the 9th of Enas, Talitha Harbor age 1002.   The Councillor is much loved by the members of Health Services, especially those who have worked with him. Oles genuinely cares about the people around him and had a reputation for working long hours when he was practicing medicine. Before becoming a Councillor, he worked in family medicine, seeing a variety of patients from the newly arrived to the elderly and everyone between. He also specialized in wound care.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Oles grew up in a large family. He had four parents in a polycule relationship and two younger siblings.   His birth parent was Lyons Vivek (he/him). Aside from early childhood chest feeding, he was parented equally by all. His three other parents were Zella (she/her), Laura Troy (she/her), and Alger Vivek (xe/xem). Oles’ childhood was filled with love and chaos. He was the eldest, followed by Jewel (she/her) and Armani Vivek (they/them).   The houses of Talitha Harbor are designed for efficiency and have a limited size. As their family grew, Premise allotted them two Tier-II houses next-door to each other. The adults and children moved freely between both.   The family was like most Talithans and owned little in the way of possessions. The kids had a few toys, there were decorations, games, a few books, and other more personal odds and ends. At times, keeping track of exactly where any one thing was could be a challenge. But, the parents cared more about their family life than their things and didn’t stress over having to bounce between the two houses at times to find a specific thing.   All the cooking and family meals took place in one house, the other kitchen simply held snacks. Family meals were crowded and noisy, but Oles loved them. His family dynamic played a lot in his direction in life, continuing to surround himself with people he cared about.   When it was time for Oles’ Choosing Ceremony, he picked Health Services, Education, and Ouroboros. All three vocations involved working directly with people. Health Services was his first choice, and the one he was chosen for.

Sexuality

Oles simply identifies as queer. He doesn’t have any preference one way or another in terms of a person’s physical makeup or gender identity. Though he doesn’t consider himself aromantic or asexual, Oles has never had a committed romantic relationship with an individual or group. Staying single gives him more time to focus on his medical duties and friends.   His closest friend is a woman named Natsuki Okazaki. They have a close queer platonic friendship. Natsuki is Aro/Ace and both of them are happy with their relationship as it is. They are also neighbors, living next door to each other. A living situation neither of them has wanted to change, even when their positions afforded them better accommodations. In Oles’ case, being a Councillor meant he could move into a room in the Anunitum Fortress. A very common choice for councillors since it makes their life simpler. However, he turned down the room, keeping his old Tier-II home.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Oles did well in school and took all of his lessons seriously. He graduated from the Health Services Vocational Schoolhouse at seventeen sols, which is on the younger side for Health Services. Oles knew he wanted to go into family medicine and as a Tier-I, he worked as an assistant to earn on-the-job training. He quickly gained high regard with the other vocation members and his patients.   As soon as Oles put in the minimum time as a Tier-I, they gave him the option to work as a Tier-II family practitioner. The Earth equivalent of a practicing physician. At twenty-four, he accepted and held onto the position for almost thirty sols. He loved his patients and his duties.   Most thought Oles would stay a Tier-II until he retired. However, after twenty-nine sols, Oles started studying wound healing and recovery in earnest. He researched old Earth techniques and quickly became the resident expert. Once he reached his thirtieth sol as a Tier-II, they asked him to become a specialist. This would allow him to focus his skills and train others. Oles accepted and became a Tier-III.   Oles was just as dedicated as a Specialist as he’d been as a family practitioner. He was also just as popular, both as a teacher and a doctor. His work went from general family medicine to wound and serious injury care. He also started working with those who wanted scar reduction, experimenting with the unique compounds found around Talitha Harbor.   Specialist Vivek was still deep in his work when the Councillor voted in by Health Services retired. Though Oles didn’t put his name in as a candidate, he had several colleagues who thought he would be perfect for the job. They asked if he would accept the position, if voted in, and Oles said yes.   Oles Vivek was sixty sols when he became one of the Council of Thirteen. It’s not unknown for older Talithans to gain the office, though the average age is mid forties to early fifties. Oles didn’t know how long he’d stay in the position, but he hoped to influence some positive changes for the future. He’d spent many sols taking care of people as individuals, now he would care for them as a whole.
