Cloudy Harbor Husks

The husks are found on Cloudy Harbor Rice. This plant is native to Talitha Harbor. It is slightly different than the rice plants found on Earth. The grains are larger and the checmical/nutritional makeup is different, though it's still a decent source of starch. The CHR, or chor as its usually called, is a okay, but weak food nutrtionally. The husks, on the other hand, are very useful. The chor typically gets ground into a powder for cooking, verse simply eatten as a food like native Earth rice.

Material Characteristics

The husk is a dense structure with a heavy silica content. The husk grains average 3 cm in length and are pretty narrow. When the plant is fully mature the husk will start to naturally separate on its own. The plant will stop feeding moisture into it and in the drying process it will split. Waiting until this point for harvesting makes for quick work since you can shake them off with a little bit of effort.

Origin & Source

The original plants were originally found in the mountain range on the north end of the Anunitum continent. Naturally they grow spread throughout the colder regions of Talitha. The plants were found in the lower lands of Simmah. They have sense been cultivated into small fields, mostly in Simmah, but there are a few in Anunitum. The wild plant is also harvested, but in limited quantities for environmental impact concerns.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Most of the husks are processed for their silica content. Mining is limited and the Talithans try to preserve their beaches as much as they can. Though, some silica is taken from the sand there as well. The husks and a few other plant species with heavy silica content are their first source of choice.
