Investigating the Oily Creature
General Summary
Pook and Gerf step back into the Tart to discuss their encounter with the creature. Gerf reveals that there have been many disagreements and arguments in the Tart recently, along with an uptick in missing and broken items. Pook spends the day conducting a quick investigation, talking to the employees and looking around. Throughout the day, he interviewed Dandylion, Icepetal, and Pello Oaknut. After learning what could from them about the mysterious disappearing things and broken stuff, he headed behind the building to see what he could find.
Out back, he found tiny footprints the size of the mystery creature's feet and smaller at the well and near the bases of two trees. Each tree has a natural split opening into the trunk at ground level that appears to be just large enough for the creature to get into. He noticed a wire hanging from the lowest branch on one of the oak trees. Gerf told him that the wire used to have a wind chime on it, but he couldn't remember having heard the chime for a month or so.
Later that evening, still the 27th of Raindays, while playing music by the fire Pook had already earned 3 copper drops for his efforts entertaining the patrons in the common room when he observed an altercation between Icepetal and a finely dressed drunken man named Drebart. Pook moved over to Drebart's table while playing his flute to attract Drebart's attention away from Icepetal. That only worked momentarily, so Pook tried to interrupt the argument again when it moved to the bar. Unsuccessful again, he ran up to the third floor to find Gerf. Unable to get Gerf to answer his door, Pook ran into the adjoining room and looked out the window to evaluate climbing into Gerf's room. After discovering that it was virtually impossible to get into Gerf's room alive, Pook decided to head back to the common room. As he was leaned back inside, Pook noticed what appeared to be a creature with insect-like wings flying through the treetop, but he lost track of it.
Hurrying back into the common room, he found Icepetal and Pello throwing dishes at a staggering Drebart in an otherwise empty common room. Trying to engage the drunk in conversation to convince him to give up only resulted in insults. So Pook changed tactics. Casting Vicious Mockery, Pook started pressing towards the door.
