When you live this far north the only thing you can grow here are potatoes, but we know more than one way to make a meal out of it. - Potato Farmer
In the northern lands of Kor, the ground is often difficult to grow many kinds of crops that require warm weather and lots of sunlight, meaning that the people that lived there had to find a more suitable crop to ensure they could feed themselves or starve when the harsh winter came. So they found a vegetable that meet their needs, that being the potato due to it being hardy against the cold and from that, a series of recipes were created to make it more tolerable considering that most people would have to eat potatoes for weeks on end and that can get dull in a short amount of time, in the process, northern Kor is known for its many potato themed dishes that anyone one can be made so long as potatoes are on hand.
Vital Food Source
Not everything involves hunting when you live here, a potato can easily feed you as much as a piece of meat can any day. - Elder Villager
Many people in the north value potatoes greatly due to the hardships of collecting food it being much harder the farther one lives north. It is for that reason potatoes are grown as much as possible and stored away for later since they can last for months if stored properly. Allowing people to have the required nutrients needed in the harsh winter months as they try to keep themselves fed, so long as the soil is good enough to grow in. It is why many northern farmers in the region mainly grow potatoes as their main crop more than any other. Making it all the more important to keep these farmers open and maintained or many people will starve by the time the first frost comes their way. It is a crop that has become a center of lifestyle for the people here and continues to be no matter how much time has passed.
While other crops are able to survive the cold climate and are commonly used in the southern regions of Kor, the potato remains standard in the north. It has been a traditional meal that has kept many generations filled through the ever-so-cold days that they have endured. It is even a common greeting to give weary travelers a potato meal to fill their empty stomachs after traveling through the rugged terrain to reach the settlements in the region. Making it all the more important for them to keep it even as the world around them is constantly changing just as the seasons themselves do. Especially when the winters are much longer here and the soil is not as rich to grow many types of crops here.
