Personal history

Barthalemew is a first generation elf. When he was young it was assumed he developed a learning disability because at around the age of nine he began to fall behind his classmates. He seemed to struggle in school, taking far longer than his peers to learn the concepts. It wasn't that his memory was bad, or that he didn't learn. He was just slow to learn. At around eleven people began to comment on his ears and general bone structure. He was recruited by the gymnatics team because he had an uncanny sense of balance and grace; however, his grades were such that he was unable to compete within a year. When he finally graduated high school [two years late], he didn't feel that college was for him and instead he moved to New Houston to work on magical construction on high rises. It was there that he discovered his talent for magic. Working alongside mages, he learned to do what they were doing quite quickly and soon he was shifted to the magical side of construction. 
It wasn't until a decade later that he was diagnosed as elven. It was assumed that his slow maturation and learning challenges might be due to this and suddenly he no longer felt stupid or unworthy. He devoted himself to magical studies and after a great deal of work, he was brought into the Burning Tower as the lead Magical Construct Instructor.
