Cultures & Ethnicities of Elia
Culture and ethnicity are closely related but not the same. Even aside from the fact that many people are raised in-and-around people of a different ethnicity than they are, any two people may have nearly identical genetic makeups and may be a part of the same ethnicity but have been raised to have completely separate set of beliefs, traditions, preferences, and skills.
While culture and ethnicity are orthogonal, it is helpful for simplicity's sake to group cultures by the ethnicity they are most associated with. Keep in mind that these are broad strokes - some examples where the culture-ethnicity relationship breaks down include the Ashlanders (who have a very distinctive culture but most of whom have a variety of ethnicities) and the blending of Chian and Asab cultures throughout much of the The Guo Empire.
Moreover, the historic influence of both the Giants and the Dragons has greatly impacted all kin cultures, and has contributed to a "blending" of cultures across large distances (e.g., the presence of the Draconic spoken and signed language across nearly all continents and islands).
