Meila

In the land of Sakxa, a unique, Colmerhæd-speaking minority known as the Meila exists amidst the predominantly Sakxani population. Unlike the settled Sakxani folk, the Meila migrate from place to place, guided by divine visions and the blessings of the gods, particularly Caithulandru, the Ocean God.   During the reign of Eddvar, the great Sakxani conqueror, the Meila experienced a rise to prominence. Eddvar's maritime conquests and association with the Ocean God's cult further bolstered the Meila's influence, intertwining their fate with the worship of the divine sea.   In modern times, with the emergence of the wool industry and the economic boom brought by trade with neighboring nations, many young Meila have chosen to stay in cities, seeking opportunities and a share in the burgeoning prosperity. They take up various jobs, applying their natural skills acquired from seafaring and farming in harsh conditions to practical professions. Guilds have even opened their doors to Meila artisans and workers, recognizing their expertise.   The Meila's farming techniques, honed through their migratory lifestyle, have proved particularly valuable in managing pastures and supporting the sheep industry, contributing to the success of Sakxa's wool boom. However, not everyone in Sakxa embraces the Meila and their connection to the Ocean God. Discrimination against the Meila stems from social prejudices and biases, rather than any inherent conflict within the The Old Tradition itself, which typically advocates harmony among the worship of different deities.   As the Meila navigate the challenges and opportunities of a changing society, their unique heritage, skills, and divine inspiration continue to shape their place in the ever-evolving fabric of Sakxani culture.
