Banti

The Banti are a tribe of people originally hailing from the distant country of Tifwa Akn. They speak the Hal Tikwa language, a beautiful and complex tongue unique to their tribe. They are closely related to Tifwa Akn's dominant group, the Ghūd, and both groups embrace each other as close cousins.   Their rich cultural heritage is often set to the side in the land of Shuri where they have settled over the generations, on account of their being an ethnic minority. They are tolerated by the native Īkagh tribes, but not fully accepted into their society. As a result, the Banti often face discrimination and prejudice in their daily lives, and are frequently denied access to certain opportunities and privileges, and occasionally, treated as second-class citizens. Tensions accrue to the Banti's worship of Jailindulayin, the All-Seer, a faith popular in Tifwa Akn, kicking against the Alaq Religion of the Īkagh.   The Banti remain a proud and resilient people in spite of such challenges, however, and broadly known for their strength and determination. They work hard to preserve their culture and traditions in the face of adversity, and are not afraid to take on any available job that will let them eke out a living.   Among the Banti are numerous skilled artisans and craftsmen, and their beautiful hand-woven textiles and intricate carvings are highly prized, their aesthetic value recognized even by the Īkagh. They are also renowned for their delicious cuisine, which blends the flavors of their homeland with the spices and ingredients of the Shuri desert.
