Dragonkillers

Tracing their origins back to the time when the Dragons and Giants walked the world, the Dragonkillers are considered to be some of the most ancient relics in all of Taeva. As their name would suggest, these weapons were forged and enchanted by the Giants during their war with the Dragons with the intent of being a perfect counter against them, though the war still ended in defeat for the giants despite their creation. While the original Dragonkillers have long since been destroyed, the few fragments of them that remained within the world still retain much of their original power, and have been reshaped into powerful weapons for aspiring mortal Dragonslayers.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Dragonkiller weapons were said to be imbued with the hatred their Giant creators felt towards the Dragons. This has resulted in these weapons developing a number of effects meant to harm Dragons and bypass their defences, including disrupting any magical wards that are in effect, and slicing through all but the hardest of scales with great ease. Additionally, it's said that those in possession of a Dragonkiller weapon can sense the presence of nearby Dragons, even if they're attempting to disguise their presence.

Manufacturing process

According to legend, the Giants poured all of the anger and hate they had for their Draconic rivals into the Dragonkillers as they forged them, and inscribed them with numerous runes meant to bypass magical defenses, pierce the scales of their Draconic foes, and revealing their presence.

History

The Dragonkillers were forged in the midst of the war between the Dragons and Giants, a war waged for dominance over Taeva. While they lacked the innate magical abilities of their Draconic rivals, the Giants were master craftsfolk and Runecarvers, talents which they poured into the forging of the Dragonkillers. While these weapons proved formidable in confrontations with the Dragons, the war had already turned decisively in the favour of the Dragons and their then newly created Drakai servants by this point, with the war ending in defeat and exile for the Giants, and the destruction of their weapons.

Over time, the scattered fragments of these destroyed weapons would be found by aspiring Dragonslayers, and forged into weapons to aid them in their quests, with much of their power still intact.

Significance

Dragonkiller weapons hold great significance to those with a keen interest in the history of the Dragons, Giants, and Runic Magic, as well as Taevas prehistory. Due to having been forged specifically to kill their kind, the Dragons have an instinctual hatred for these weapons and those who may wield them, a trait that seems to extend to other Dragonkin as well, including Wyverns, Wyrms, and the Drakai (though the latter may be more of a cultural trait).
