The Beginning
A handful of decades after the Dragonfire Emergence, when the dragons woke from their maddened states, they started congregating. Generally, the first thing these new groups did was investigate how the world had changed since their exile.
It wasn't soon after that they came to the conclusion that there was no power on the planet that could stop them from doing whatever they chose to do besides the
Alsmage. And by the time the dragons woke from their madness, he was nowhere to be found. The mortals they encountered told stories of the mightiest mage there ever was, and that he was off on some mission to defend the world against threats not even these new invaders could understand.
The dragons did not take kindly to such remarks, nor did they have any reason to believe such claims before some curious members made their way to one of the
Alsmage's
Six Spires. The towering buildings were immune to their dragon breaths and no physical blow cracked the foundations. Before their might, forests bent, mountains broke, seas roared. But these buildings did not yield. This was a cause for concern for the most clever and careful of the dragons, while the rest ignored the Spires and went on to conquer and rule. To them, they were the mightiest mortal creatures alive, even above the remains of the other four original species.
They started conquering the pre-
Empire human nations on
Sor Rusk and the other civilizations across the two settled continents with relative ease, their own physical and magical powers far exceeding the, in their eyes, fledgling societies that had taken the place of the ruling powers of old.

A World in a Jaw
After some time, they found a fondness for using the mortals under their rule for their own projects, labor and amusement. They even granted power onto those who proved themselves worthy and intermingled with the mortal populous. Some so far as to fall in love, and conceive half-dragon offspring tot he surprise and pragmatic acceptance of most of their kind.

The Return of the Alsmage
Then, one day, a small number of years after the complete world domination of the world by the draconic coalitions and alliances, such as the organization known as
Scaleworld, the
Alsmage returned.
He did one thing when he saw the state of the world in order to change it and one thing only. He liberated the kingdom of
Als Alour within the span of a few hours, and then, he did nothing. The mortals who had been anticipating his return and dreamed of the day when he would save them all were crushed to realize the intent behind his actions. His priority at the time was the
Sunlight Dynasty, then
Als Alour, then the
world. In his eyes, the kingdom and their rulers had survived and the world itself was not in danger of being destroyed. Therefore, he would not intervene in disasters that mortalkind could solve.
While the dragons were terrified and in awe of his power in the retaking of
Als Alour and the destruction of the
dragons who took it, and they found this philosophy of his curious, they were relieved that they were not wiped out and were allowed to continue ruling the world.

The Dragon Knights
As with all things, the powerful started craving more than the considerable amounts they had. Treaties and accords formed between the different groups of dragons eventually fell apart and war broke out. While the dragons themselves were enough to fight, they realized that, unlike mortals, they did not get another chance at life after death due to godly intervention. Their conflicts with the gods in times before humanity had banned them from divine power and its wondrous effects. As they stood on battlefields and saw the sundered corpses of allies and enemies alike, their thoughts did not go to peace for the prevention of
more death amongst their own species, but instead to alternate means of warfare.
They started employing mortals into armies that fought beneath the shadow of their wings. Their blades and magics would serve the dragons and give them the edge in the draconic wars. Naturally, this method was adopted by the clever and shunned by the prideful, the latter of which more often than not finding their end at the hands of the mortals they thought weak and under the mocking eyes of their peers.
It reached the point where, for maximum effort, the dragons started allowing a select few to ride on their backs, to join them in aerial fights where their skills and magics further pushed what was possible with cooperation between the mortals and dragons. The first of these dragons that employed this revolutionary method was
Torganoth, the War Vessel, and his cruel yet ingenious mind was hard to surpass.
