The Clean Slate

The largest thieves guild in the Empire, and far older than the civilization it has burrowed into like a parasite. It has existed in one form or another since humanity settled Sor Rusk, and has persisted despite the best efforts of the human nations in the time periods before the Age of Blazing Strife.   They deal in any and all criminal enterprises one could think of, there is no criminal pie they do not have their greedy fingers in. They have branches in virtually every society within the borders of the Empire and there is very little they do not know.   While the organization has employed and currently boasts tens of thousands of members across the human nations across history, the individual branches are relatively independent.   The symbol of the Clean Slate, currently, is a flag attached to a knife depicting a bag of spilling gold on a plate.   Article Content

Reveller (Society)

The Revellers of the criminal underground are those criminals that thrive and operate in the public space and uncommonly visit criminal-exclusive locations and talk to other criminals. These can include cutpurses, pickpockets, swindlers, blackmailers and loan sharks.

Diver (Society/Hidden Game)

The Divers of the criminal underground, the most common type, are those criminals that dip in and out of common life and crime, between Society and the Hidden Game. These can include thieves, fencers, drug dealers, information brokers, smugglers, pirates, assassins, fighting ring organizers and kidnappers.

Sharks (Hidden Game)

The Sharks of the criminal underground are those criminals that live exclusively in criminal-exclusive locations and rarely venture into society for any reason. These can include gang bosses, officers, managers, accountants and guards.

Syndicate (Open View)

While keeping themselves hidden and out of sight in the majority of imperial nations, an example of a national branch that does the opposite is the one in Gronstadt.   In that nation, they are still engaged in the same criminal activities as other national branches, but beyond self-regulating to ensure cleanliness and safety, they are also, thanks to the many deregulations and subsidies from the Gronstadt monarchy, essentially a civilian peacekeeping organization.   Their common activities include inconspicuously station personnel in markets and gathering spots to swarm and beat into submission any perpetrators of petty thievery and attempted murderers, returning stolen items and providing medical attention to victims. Also, whenever disaster strikes in the settlements, they are almost always first on the scene to provide medical aid and relief supplies. They are so open and so trusted that the higher ups carry business cards with the Clean Slate logo, they have individual intermediaries available to the public and they have designated locations to visit for meetings.   Something the Gronstadten Clean Slate refuses to engage in and actively aids Alsguard and Imperial Guard in investigation and solving is murder cases. This puts them squarely at odds with other criminal organization that do not shy away from such methods, such as the End Court and the Cut Throat. The only time they would take active part in it would be to murder other murderers.
