Carrier

Carrier is one of the if not the most underrated professions on Tacillia. Sure, they carry items or messages from one place to another, but everyone can do that if the person wants to do it. And that is the central point. Not everybody wants to do it, and those few who do it do not do it for money because there is no money in it. They are not doing it for fame for apparent reason. They like to travel and see other places.

It can become boring after a while if the carrier is doing nothing but moving back and forth between two places. These are specialized people because they know all the turns and dangers, and for them, these roads are easy to travel, but they always hope for something new. These carriers also double as dealers to increase their income with some additional money.

There are those who travel everywhere. These are mostly the youngest carriers who do not know and frankly do not care about the dangers of the road. They accept any commission for a meager fee and go wherever the road takes them.

Those employed by the bigger dealer houses are in a better situation than most carriers. There aren’t many of these because there aren’t many dealer houses on Tacillia. But they are treated fairly by the house, paid more, and even protected by mercenaries if what they carry is important.

But the most important carriers are the ones who are a member of a household of a noble or a ruler. They are the best of their trade and highly skilled in many languages, etiquette, and other skills required for a carrier that is more of an envoy and not just a simple carrier. Usually, they are veteran warriors, too, who walked the road for decades and faced many dangers. Of course, they are provided with guardsmen if it is needed.
