Marselos II Noreco

Young Master Marselos Elanosad Noreco

Without a doubt the strongest and largest of Marek's Apprentices, Marselos is thought of (If he's thought of at all) as "The Boy Who Cannot Be Remembered."   A motivated and dedicated boy, Marselos possesses a supernatural condition known as The Forgetting, which makes remembering him all but impossible unless one spends their life around him every day, interacting with him constantly and growing used to his presence and identity.   Intelligent, healthy, coordinated and extremely well muscled, Marselos is the product of nearly a decade of negligence resulting in self determination! His is the story of a boy that rose above the ignorance and bullying of his own family, determined to succeed even if nobody remembers him for it... determined to be remembered even if it means he must do the impossible!

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Extremely large and muscular for his age, Marselos is a spry child with broad shoulders, strong arms and thick legs!
He has wild, curly black hair about neck length and so thick you can barely run your hands through it.
His skin is a standard Kandia caramel with mild freckles along his face and a healthy glow to it, deep set veins and clearly chiseled physique with next to no body fat.

Body Features

If anything is to be said about him it is that Marselos is a brick of a child with a body much like that of a teenager who has been trained at the gymnasium his entire life.
Exceedingly well muscled and seeming to require little extra exercise to maintain this figure, Marselos is much taller, broader and heavier than his age would otherwise imply and requires tunics to be specially sized to his extra wide frame and extremely thick limbs.   Such is his intense strength and health that Marselos has even been known to win in arm wrestling and throwing contests against adults, though not against terribly strong adults.
Despite his size, however, Marselos is extremely coordinated and fast on his feet, known for reacting very quickly in physical drills and seldom caught off guard by natural occurrences like animals flitting in his face or freak gusts of wind.

Facial Features

Marselos has an incredibly symmetrical face, even the patterning of his freckles nearly identical and mirrored on both sides, with sterling white teeth that are almost perfectly straight and a smile that sits just a touch lopsided on his face. His chin is presently smooth but in time will clearly shape up to a more chiseled jaw to match the rest of his body. Marselos' face is simultaneously supremely normal and universally attractive because of these basic visual traits.   In time he will surely grow into these features.

Identifying Characteristics

Though normally not visible when he's clothed, Marselos possesses a scar that stretches from just a few inches to the right of his bellybutton to about an inch from his right armpit. It is clear and obvious to anyone who sees him with his shirt off, though it does not bother or impede him in any way.
Marselos gained this large scar just a half a year before Marek Arrived, climbing to the top of a tree to scream from it at people that he was strong and could conquer any impediment.   While people walked by and ignored him and one of his five siblings watched on and mocked him he fell out and hit several branches on the way down. One caught him in the belly and tore his body up to the armpit before flinging him some dozen feet sideways. When he landed he dislocated his arm. His brother, for the first time in his life, grew concerned for Marselos and brought him home. His father and mother made a poultice for him and kept him in bed.
Fortunately the boy healed very quickly and was back out and causing trouble for himself to try to get noticed in less than eight weeks. Before he knew it the scar had set in and he was back in action!

Apparel & Accessories

Marselos is generally clothed similar to most Kanda citizens of his station. Sometimes he wears a more voluminous robe of red but much of the time he wears plain white tunic, sandals, carries a small leather bag and has a bronze armlet with an Obisquion Fruit stamped into it; given to him by Sharleev Almindi to mark his station as Marek Of War-Saw's Apprentice.

Personal history

Born to a middle class Annar in an Outer Anno of Sharleev Almindi's land, Marselos was born the fourth son and youngest of eight children. He was a sickly boy at first, barely living through infancy and, while his mother was doting to him at first, he was not even a year old before she was pregnant again and, by the time he was two, his parents and siblings had moved on to tend to Marselos' much stronger younger brother.
At Three he was given the name Marselos, after his Grandfather, who had remained somewhat close to him at that point but within the next year, died of a sudden illness.
After that he was largely ignored by the family except within the collective of "The Children," learning through a family tutor and through cultural osmosis.   Still, even as a very young child, Marselos had to do much by himself, driven at only four to start reading more and teaching himself how to properly say every syllable in his vocabulary.   Throughout the entirety Marselos would be teased and bullied by his oldest brother; an angry teenager that was trying his hardest to assert his dominance over the family before having to leave for military service. Unable to resist his brother and remainder of his siblings who followed, Marselos found himself performing the brunt of the hard work; lifting heavy things, managing the dirtiest animals, running after runaway calves, cleaning up the messes, even doing some of the more adult work due to his parents' negligence. His parents often forgot to call him for dinner and his siblings, preferring he get the short stick, would knowingly exclude him when called.   Wanting nothing more to be recognized and remembered, Marselos was emulating adults and practicing more serious academics and fitness by 5, sure that his hard work would pay off and prove to his siblings that he was worthwhile and to his parents that he could stand out and make them proud!
Thus was the trouble of living with The Forgetting.
His dream, foundationally, was impossible.   But this did NOT stop the boy from pushing forward.
To make lifting things easier, Marselos began using his father's Personal Gymnasium, practicing wrestling with his Older brother's coach and study laws and proper political terminology in his grandfather's old library late into the night until he passed out with his face in a book. Somehow he drove himself to work harder in the fields and under his standard tutors just to get time to study these extra things.   Often he would wake up from these busy days with his older brothers and sisters teasing him for being worthless, undisciplined and disorganized; falling asleep in the books, sitting in the libraries all day as if he would one day be a politician when he couldn't even get recognized as a son.
Naturally the boy would often get into fights... and often be beaten brutally by his cruel eldest siblings.   Despite this, it wasn't long before Marselos turned seven and had already outgrown most of his older siblings. He could lift great weights, wrestle MOST of his older brothers to the ground, outrun his nasty sisters, stay up long nights to read by candle light and finish ALL of his chores before the day was half over. If he had been able to be noticed he would have been called some sort of genius and would have been recognized as a True Son Of Kanda.
Yet, Once Again, The Forgetting got in the way of the boy's ambitions.   Being unable to score the eye of a patron as most boys his age were doing, he worked hard publicly to become a more impressive student!
He went to Leev Almindi's libraries to read higher materials, petitioned the lord personally with various questions and generally received answers, always having been forgotten and mistaken for a new, curious young boy with endearing desires and questions and might well have a good future. He would perform public acts of coordination and strength, speed and health; becoming fiercely competitive and showing off consistently in any effort to be noticed!   By Eight he'd grown terribly strong! Strong enough to beat even his oldest brother at arm wrestling. No longer were most of his siblings able to bully him and his eldest brother went off to train in the Kandia Military as a Leconis as the law required.
His parents had grown, however, all the more negligent to him and his siblings had distanced themselves, resorting to petty insults and challenging his character; his bravery, intelligence, initiative and piety.
Incorporating more and more intellect into his daily workouts and requiring his family tutor to quiz him while he exercised any time the tutor was not already busy, Marselos grew even more foolhardy and hardworking!   Eventually his "Never Give Up" attitude and need to show off brought him to climb the tallest tree in the Shar!
Screaming at anyone who would cross the tree's path, Marselos would challenge them to climb as high as him, brag that he could not be beaten and try to call out his worth to the world!   And then Marselos fell nearly a hundred feet through the many boughs of the tree!
A branch caught him by the belly and tore him open nearly from navel to nape!
His siblings, for the first time in their lives, seemed to become terribly concerned for him and his oldest sisters brought him back gently.   His mother, uncertain if he would live or die, tended to him initially but immediately thereafter assigned his sisters to his care, who bumbled along for eight weeks while he drifted in and out of fever.
Still, after all was said and done his gash healed into a rough scar, which faded in only a matter of a couple months and before anyone knew it he'd grown even STRONGER!
He was back to work on the property, lifting goats and sheep and pulling cattle around and stomping hay! Thinking that this would score him some reputation, Marselos was disappointed to find that even his own father couldn't remember his recent injury and his mother scarcely remembered more than having stitched him up and stuck him with a poultice.   His formerly concerned sisters quickly reverted to ridiculing and teasing him for his foolishness in the tree and, aggravated at his near death experience having garnered him no more recognition than before, he swore off having anything to do with making friends or caring for family! He would train and eventually beg The Sharleev to take him as an apprentice!   That time did not come, however!
Instead, The Bringer Of Fertility Arrived!
The Shar itself was transformed into a farming wonderland and his parents QUICKLY forgot to clue him in on things. His own bedroom was taken by his mother to be made into a weaving studio and, while carrying a log through the new farmland, training and exploring the changes at the same time, Marselos saw the Bringer Of Fertility standing next to a truly gigantic cow and telling others around him that he was to have Apprentices and to send children to be tested!   Marselos returned home immediately and fortunately knew he didn't need to ask permission.
His sisters and brothers teased him and told him that he would never be noticed... but he struck his oldest remaining brother in the face so hard it knocked his teeth out and told his siblings that he hoped they forgot him before leaving.   Marek indeed tested the child and he passed with flying colors, moving into the home and, while perhaps being regularly ignored, being allowed a vast pool of research material and higher luxuries than he could have ever imagined! New languages were open to him, new forms of writing and poetry and new foods he'd never tasted! He was no longer a middle class farming man's eighth child! He was the apprentice to a Reincarnated Founder Of Kanda... and he needed never again talk to his horrible, negligent family!
Even if The Bringer Of Fertility would forget him from time to time... nobody was mean to him, teased or ridiculed him, everyone was apologetic for forgetting him... and he was given a schedule of heavy training, learning and experiencing things that kept him busy and satisfied!
No matter how hard it was to remember him... he KNEW that he would not want for self improvement under the tutelage of Marek Of War-Saw!

Gender Identity

Sexuality

Marselos Is Not Yet Old Enough To Have Consciously Formed Sexual Preferences, Though He DOES Like "Looking At Pretty Girls."

Education

Marselos has the benefit of having received a quality Kandia Education as befits a boy from the Core. His father, being wealthy enough to afford a tutor, worked hard to get him as educated as possible. He can read, write, recite poetry, understands basic math, and has memorized many laws and rites of his culture so as to potentially be noticed more.   Furthermore, Marselos has recently been taken under the wing of The Bringer Of Fertility; a central figure among his apprentices, despite often being forgotten or ignored by many of them.
Because of this Marselos is learning English, Polish, Higher Mathematics and a Mostly Modern curriculum as taught by Marek, though he is actively engaged in this mental and physical education up to 16 hours a day, often forced to study while he eats and discouraged from consuming any media that is not educational.

Employment

While as of yet too young to have benefited from any real employment, Marselos grew up on a farm, tending to animals and doing physical jobs that include helping his family build, dig, measure, survey and otherwise manage land and buildings. He has also studied much in the way of politics and poetry, making him a likely choice for a young writer or philosopher. With his incoming training at the hands of Marek Of War-Saw he has been learning countless skills and practices that will quickly put him ahead of not only his peers but even the average Kandia Working Man!

Failures & Embarrassments

Marselos' Life is full of disappointments and personal failures that he himself couldn't have even been aware of. His siblings are all talented and well known, tutored and valued by their parents. Marselos, in the meantime, was still regularly forgotten even by his own parents, teased by his siblings and pushed to the sideline. When he would strive to do something he would be mocked and ignored. Even his successes would be ignored and pushed aside as trivial by his parents and siblings. Because of his abilities he has also never been able to gain consistent friends, failed to have the life of a normal child at every turn.   Of all of the children that were sent to Marek, Marselos might not have failed but indeed was forgotten when he had passed. It is one of his greatest embarrassments that he had even been forgotten by The Bringer Of Fertility.

Mental Trauma

While Marselos cannot be said to have any true mental trauma, he has a relatively thin skin when it comes to being teased and has a long history of having been bullied and ridiculed by his siblings. While this has not held him back, it has also instilled in him a "Never Give Up" attitude that can get him hurt or in danger just as often as it can improve his lot in life. He is often lacking in general self esteem when not doing something outrageous to get attention and is generally shy in more standard interactions with his peers, disliking to chance wasting his time with someone who will likely just forget about him anyway.   While this relatively brooding demeanor is something that Marselos is starting to get over with the cohabitation of fellow students of The Bringer Of Fertility, it still gets to him very often and he has been known to sulk for long periods of time during the day if he is ignored or teased, throwing himself into his work and exercise to avoid having to talk to others.

Intellectual Characteristics

Marselos possesses an exceedingly sharp mind that, while it does not broach the level of genius, would be complimented somewhat regularly if the commenters could remember his existence long enough to take note of his intellectual talents. He is particularly detail oriented, often focusing on small items and little factors of a problem instead of a much larger picture. He is also good at organizing and generally seeks self betterment in search of recognition and validation, which his magical condition generally keeps him from getting very often.

Morality & Philosophy

While perhaps undeveloped, Marselos has a strong distaste for bullies, injustice and inequality in the more loose senses.
He hates to see the strong bully the weak, to stand by while others suffer and need help. He dislikes seeing people in danger and cannot stand to see someone in pain without either helping or causing equal or greater pain to those who caused it in the first place.
In being a huge fan of Cultural Rites and Kandia Law, Marselos also has a very serious inclination toward democratic consensus, debate and using intellect to conquer social issues rather than force and intimidation. He regards certain factors like mercuriality to be Darobia (Barbaric) in nature and considers the height of civilization to be that of writing, plumbing, debating and training in a strictly regimented manner to perfect both body and mind.   While he does not strictly seek simplicity as some contemporary stoics might, he does appreciate open spaces and not having a cluttered area, feeling that a clear place of study helps keep a clear and organized mind.

Taboos

Marselos essentially follows the standard cultural taboos of The Kandia.
In understanding many laws that he has memorized to impress his family and peers, Marselos holds a strong distaste for the idea of elephants used in war, for the burning of enemies to death, for human sacrifice and the warfare against his own cultural kinsfolk! He similarly values the economy and finds it taboo to do anything that would outright harm the Kandia supremacy of their resident ocean.   He also regards it as essentially heresy of the highest order to express distrust or accusation toward a Reincarnated Founder Of Kanda, this brought on by his interactions with Marek Of War-Saw

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Marselos, more than anything, seeks to gain recognition.
Not just regular reputation and validation but the status of A True Hero of Kanda (The Legal Title And Position, Not Just A Metaphorical Concept) and to lead great armies against the enemies of the Empire.
He dreams every night of championing new forms of combat, wooing people with his intellect in courtly life and standing before the Kandar, being complimented on his service and his many noteworthy features. Around him people remember his name and ask him everything about him, begging to learn every detail of his life and forgetting nothing. He dreams of a world wherein his parents remember him, only to find he has long forgotten them and has nothing for them, wherein he needs not be bullied by his siblings because his very existence and position in power bullies them without need of him putting any notice! Everyone knows his name and he need remember nobody.   Suffice to say that Marselos will do next to anything to be noticed, driven and plagued in equal parts by the supernatural abilities he is still thoroughly unaware of. More than anything, he wants to be famous in the Kandia standard; to have a seat in the senate, to travel far and wide, to have people remember him.   He, of course, does not know that this will never be possible... but it drives him toward excellence all the same!
Every failure Marselos endures motivates the boy to perform better, longer, more often and with far more gusto than the last time. He seldom rests, works hard every day to better himself and consistently outperforms his peers in his academic challenges even when they are categorically more intelligent than he is.
Simply put, the boy is dedicated to the very idea of hard work and every failure he suffers drives him deeper into that dedication!

Virtues & Personality perks

Perhaps one of Marselos' most positive traits is his "Never Give Up" attitude and need to improve himself!
Time and again, throughout his life, he has been beaten down and told not to get up, only to rise above his shortcomings and improve himself.
Overall he strives to not just be well rounded in every field but rather an expert in anything he takes on and will not settle for less.

Hygiene

Typical of his age, Marselos tends to be "A bit grubby" but he is more physically oriented in his grubbiness, often covered more in sweat than dirt, in animal fuzz than the fuzz of whatever children roll in in the fields of Kanda. He generally dislikes brushing his hair because it is so thick so it tends to be wild and messy. At the insistence of individuals like Neva, Marek's head house slave, he has started righting this negligence but still is a child with a messy demeanor and a lack of patience to slow down and manage his hygiene. Generally being neglected by his parents and bullied by his siblings has also led him to pay less attention to his appearance and state of cleanliness.

Social

Religious Views

While certainly no theologian and far too young to have a full understanding of the Pantheonic System of Kanda, Marselos certainly holds the ideals of the Kandia faith close to his heart, knows most of the children's stories by heart and one day wishes to journey to Appine to meet with the Council Of The Gods.

Social Aptitude

Having had little in the way of proper interaction with either adults or children his age for most of his life, as well as suffering under negligent parents and bully siblings, Marselos is often socially awkward, slightly shy when put on the spot and quick to irritation if not outright anger. While perhaps not "loud" as some in such a condition might be, he often stares daggers at those who ignore him or underestimate him and tries to put himself out in the open whenever possible to prove himself and show that he is just as capable as all of the other children. His brooding, to those who remember it, is regarded as true, world class, S Class Sulking right up with big names like Batman and Spawn.   While this registers awkwardly in most social interaction and is certainly not appreciated in places of business or politics, Marselos is also very well behaved in more official scenery; appreciating the orderly layout of meeting halls, the organization of writing and paperwork and both impressed and humbled by the stricture of politics and social combat. Because of this he has worked hard to learn poems, laws and traditional cultural rites of Kanda to try to show that he is able to perform and consider more politically inclined adult topics!
While this has perhaps not landed him the recognition he seeks, it has shaped him to be a very well spoken individual when he is noticed and able to voice his opinions; often impressing those that regard him with his penchant for etiquette and proper respect those above him.
