Manifest Deities

The world home to the Empire Of Kanda is not one where deities are nebulous concepts and the imagination of faith but rather who are physical, solid beings one can see, touch and carry on conversations with. Not dissimilar from Shinto mythos, the deities of Kanda are the embodiment of realized concepts, pieces of the land, population centers and powerful events. Every great mountain has its own deity and each of them bow down to the deity of the mountain range as a whole... who itself probably swears fealty to the concept of the god of mountains as a central figure and so on. Figures like The Sun, The Moon and other such celestial bodies send down earthly avatars and every major city has a god or goddess that has been shaped by the city's collective will and experiences.   It is not unknown for any good community to have a close relationship with the god of their local natural landmark; The spirit of the waterfall, the god of the mountain, the river goddess, etc.   However, this means that gods are also not necessarily all that powerful and take on a different meaning. Some gods are small enough to crush under foot and only guard a single shrine in the house whereas other small gods might be the god of the house or god of the compound. THESE sorts of deities generally do their best to remain inconspicuous, as they don't generally have the power to throw their weight around. They instead tend to come to people in dreams and during prayer and have higher communion with all sorts of deities above them. For example, a house god might regularly talk to the deity presiding over the neighborhood, who themself must come together in a coalition of neighborhood deities to bend the proverbial knee to the deity of the city, who is a public figure and issues the will of the lesser spiritual entities.   Because of this, the world of the gods and the world of mortals, while one in the same, are also strangely separate. They are always together but do not generally interact unless one is a powerful spiritual figure and thus capable of having influence on the world of mortals.   More nebulous concepts of deities DO exist in the world at large but they are the exception, not the rule.   While Deities come in many varieties they would best be categorized into at least five relatively standard categories: Fixed Natural Phylacterious Free Conceptual   These will be further explained in a later edit!
