Demetria Adventure 4: Trouble in Hell Dorado

Demetria has found her mother, Gilzra, and is seemingly free of her curse and obligations. Trying to find a new life together, regaining the life they once lost, they arrive in the Tiefling settlement of Hell Dorado, only to find that the situation is not as idyllic as predicted.

Themes

One of the adventurers larger themes will be that missed time can never be regained. Demetria and Gilzra both want terribly to be together as a family, as daughter and mother respectively, but quickly learn the hard truth that the childhood that was lost is lost forever, and that in many ways, they are barely more than acquaintances with how little they know of each other and their respective pasts.

A secondary theme will be that the quiet and peaceful life will always seem out of reach for both characters. The events that will transpire at Hell Dorado will quickly escalate to needing their help, and bring them fully into the adventuring life one again. By the time the adventure concludes, it will seem evident that this is the life they are destined to have for the rest of their lives, despite any intent to settle down or retire to a more pedestrian line of work.

Structure

Conflict

An initial part of Demetria's conflict will be culture shock. Linthalia is a very different place than where she grew up, with a vibrant and open culture. Sexuality here is not only accepted but openly displayed and celebrated, and often sold as a commodity. She has to come to terms with how she fits in this new environment, especially as her previous adventure was predicated on her having lost control of her sexual urges.
As the story progresses forward, the broader conflict reveals itself, rumors of the Hell Knights come up, causing trouble for the community on their constant crusade for demonic incursions. Though they don't find anything in the area, there is credible evidence to show of an oncoming threat, one that can't be resolved locally.

Rising Action

Demetria and Gilzra find they have to return back to Letia and their old comrades to get to the bottom of things. They're able to get the party back together, and start to chase down leads. The threat becomes increasingly serious, as it turns out "Mother" and the other higher demons are trying to find a way to escape into T'sara after their first attempt failed.

Climax

As the attempts to resolve the incursion unfold, Demetria and her friends are instead pulled into the Ten Hells, where "Mother" and other sucubus demons are waiting for them. The emotions and sensations of the realm seemingly overwhelm the group, and are easily trapped. The wizard Rhian, whether by some arcane trick, or by nature of being entirely repulsed by sex or physical intimacy his entire life, is seemingly immune to the demon's ploys, and manages a means by which they can escape.

Falling Action

As they return to T'sara, Demetria and the others share the news with Dilancia, Colonel of The Watch of the Eternal Flame. What is to come will require more than just adventureers, it will require soldiers, warriors, paladins, and more to prevent the world seeing another World's End being formed.
