Coronation of the Maiden Queen

Linthalian tradition dictates that the Queen must abrigate her crown to an adult daughter before marrying, in order to prevent any diplomatic entanglements or attempts at a coup. As a result, the coronation and transfer of power is one of the most important events in Linthalia, and one of the more unusual examples in T'sara.

History

Linthalia has only ever been ruled by unnaturally beautiful women, and the same royal line at that. When the country was smaller and less stable, it was the target of a number of other nations for attempted annexation or "alliance" via betrothal. One of the Queens sought to upend these diplomatic games by rapidly developing the countries might, and refusing any and all suitors. The pressure subsided after a few generations, but the tradition maintained. The royal family line still believes that the tradition ensures Linthalian culture will be maintained this.

Execution

There is a grand ceremony, with a procession of the Queen, followed by her daughter. As is custom, the Queen makes an oration of her experiences, thanking the foreign dignitaries and such for attending.A bishop or higher member of the clergy proceeds to bless the present and future Queens. In ritualistic manner, the Crown of Linthalia is given from Mother to Daughter. The newly anointed Queen proceeds to give a speech of her own. concluding the event, the new Queen leaves first, followed by her mother.

Celebrations follow in the evening, usually of an extremely hedonistic nature, both among the Queen and the guests, and the public celebrating their new queen.
It is common for the retired Queen to marry the day after Coronation, though there has been one or two rare exceptions.

Observance

There is no set timeframe in which the Queen must abdicate the throne. It is both by her own decision of when the daughter is deemed ready to assume the crown, and when the Queen has a suitor intending to betrothe her.

Outside observers have recognize that regardless of the blatant debauchary of Linthalia, that this system has it's merits. Queens tend to abdicate the crown comparatively young here, which provides a rare benefit of the new Queen having her mother available at nearly all times for guidance, wisdom, and diplomacy.
