Psynplexion Condition in System Down Universe | World Anvil

Psynplexion (Sin-pleck-shun)

A genetic mutation of the Psynate abilities of the Xix. Psynplexion is beyond the simple lack of psynate telekenetics, dulling or nullifying psynate abilities around the Psynplex sub-species.

Depending on the level of development and honing, the abilities bestowed can be utilised in a number of roles within the social structure of the Xix, usually within security or military.

Under scientific observation, particularly strong carriers of the gene have shown to affect microgravity in pockets around themselves. It has been theorised that in an extreme scenario, telekenetic psionics could be exhibited in addition to psynate-nullification. This advanced condition has been dubbed the "Double-Negative" state.

In smaller jungle tribes, the Xix have been said to harbour a myth about such a being. This is often in the same circles where the Mothiric 'Sunshadow' Hawk is whispered as more than they seem. One tribe in particular have gone as far as to say the fated one has already been born within their tribe, been taken away to a secure facility as a child and is yet to be seen again.

Symptoms

A telltale sign of someone with Psynplexion is that their horns are always curved downwards.
Some even believe the potential of an individual can be found indicated in how their horns develop, stating longer and wider horns indicate a stronger ability to nullify psionics.

Treatment

While no current treatment exists, there has never been a view of Psynplexion being somehing that needs fixing. It is seen as a genetic quirk and, though viewed with unease, is accepted as a sub-species of the Psynate Xix.

Cultural Reception

Those with Psynplexion are viewed with caution and suspicion, but are seen to be an integral part of certain organisations - particularly within security and military, where protction and mitigation is required.
