Mothiric 'Sunshadow' Hawk Species in System Down Universe | World Anvil

Mothiric 'Sunshadow' Hawk

The Mothiric Hawk, often referred to as the Sunshadow on Xix, is seen depicted as a bird of prey - often with the wings of a moth.

The most interesting part of this creature is that there is no evidence of its existence. Despite this, it appears in iconography within completely seperate cultures - seperated by many lightyears, on different planets.

The Xix revere the The Sunshadow as a protector from myth and legend. The symbol of this creature, usually dipicting a stylised head and dark sun as a backdrop, is used within The Council of Grand Architects and military order.

On Vara, the Varish laud The Great Moth as the source of their learning and technological advancement. Variations of the symbolism vary in Varan culture, depending on whether it is found in military or scholastic use.

The Kasaan are seen to use rounded scales and odd wing-like patterns in their armour. Though it has never been confirmed, it is thought to be in connection to their strange deity - with some visual representation baring a strong resemblence to the Mothiric Hawk.

Curiously, symbols of a likeness to the Mothiric Hawk have been found on Systora - despite no connection to the human settlement there or the Bionic Technocracy.

Due to the nature of the legends and myths surrounding the Hawk, it is widely regarded that it has died out. Nothing else is known regarding the creature, besides that it is often said to have been the size of the average of any species that is talking about it.

There are whispers from various secluded tribes on Kerith and from the odd traveller that crosses paths with mysterious figures on space stations and planets. These whisperers speak of the Mothiric Hawk being nothing less than the true form of the Zha'Dhen.
