The lyaali generally view the military as a prestigeless, purely‐utilitarian necessity of spacefaring life, populated by whomever is desperate, depressed, or court‐ordered enough to join that particular year—which makes it all the more surprising when one of them joins the first year they’re able and decides to make it a lifelong career.
Born on a ship and spending their developmental years bouncing between different colonies, a young Toll had always found appeal in the quiet nobility of the soldiers they saw standing guard at the ports they were a frequent visitor of. When they heard starry‐eyed tales of how the other spacefaring races saw their own militaries, they were hooked, and made it their goal to become a soldier the second they reached adulthood—just not in their own military. What better fit, then, than UNA’s own race‐neutral Honor Guard?
They climbed the ranks quickly, and, in their deployments, saw more of the galaxy than they could have imagined… for better and for worse. UNA’s agenda frequently conflicted with the wishes of the planets and colonies they were sent to, and this wasn’t always in the locals’ favor. Though they stuck it out for over a decade, they were disillusioned over time by what they saw, and, eventually, decided to take an early retirement from their childhood dream. After a brief siesta, during which they recollected themselves and evaluated their life path from here on out, they decided that their fight was not yet over; they would simply switch from artillery to words. They lobbied to join the Delegacy, and with their natural leadership qualities, resonated with enough of the right people to succeed, climbing the ranks in politics as quickly as they did so in uniform.
