Manitari

Carnivorous fungal creatures, it would appear that the Manitari evolved as the direct consequence of early Assembly terraforming efforts. Though their home world is near the epicenter of UNA’s sphere of influence, they abstain from it as protest against their treatment as a species--which has made their road to recognizance that much more difficult. They are deeply curious about the universe, however, and many strike out on their own to see as much as they can before their short 30 year lifespan catches up to them.
