Cinna, the Girl in the Ring

Evidently a former adventurer, Cinna had befallen a terrible fate. She died while wearing a Ring of Mind Shielding and her soul is now trapped within. The history of the ring is not clear, as residing within the ring appears to distort both the victim's perception of time and their memory.   Ka'tan Iyjoh purchased the ring at a steep discount from a jeweler in the City of Vern. That evening Ka'tan startled awake as an ethereal voice called out to her. After some consternation she identified Cinna's peculiar situation.   Later, our heroes elected to pay a visit to Kellam Leoric, Cinna's friend and an accomplished wizard. They hoped that he may remember some of Cinna's lost memories. However, they received so much more--Kellam used the last Wish he had from a Genie to bring Cinna out of the ring and into a corporeal form again.   Based on the party's interactions with her, you all have concluded that her memory is scattered. However, as you each have spent time wearing the ring her memories have been returning bit by bit. When you first met Cinna she was scared and alone, with no recollection of what happened. Now, she recalls some--but not all--information about her life. Despite the memories she has recovered, the circumstances of her death remain shrouded in mystery. Cinna has asked for your help to fill the remaining gaps in her memory.

Cinna the Child

Before she was an adventurer, Cinna lived with her mother, Sybil, and father, Odric, on a caravan that traded across the Kingdom of Vern. Like many adventurers, the happy part of her childhood was cut short--when she was four, a gang of bandits beset her caravan on the road. Her mother was slain as the first volley of arrows poured from the trees. Fortunately, a mercenary company happened to be coming down the same road and swiftly routed the bandits. This experience cemented Cinna's desire to become stronger, so she could protect those that she loved.   To pursue that goal, she enlisted in the Vernish army at the age of 18 and served two tours, ascending quickly through the ranks. She learned that she preferred to set her own goals rather than take orders, and eventually left to become a mercenary.

Cinna the Adventurer

Cinna was a powerful fighter in a party of five adventurers. By her sides fought Galron of Velendor, a Human paladin, and Vakrot Oakengrog, a Dwarven barbarian. The three of them provided a front line for Lorinael of the Greenwoods, a half-elf ranger, and Kellam Leoric, an Elven wizard.   Galron served as a face to the party, and his devout worship of Ilos rarely led the party astray. Vakrot was both a fierce drinker and fighter, often getting into tavern brawls. However, his faith in his friends was as strong as steel, and he would do anything for them. Lorinael of the Greenwoods was a half-Elf ranger, turned to adventuring after finding no welcome in the city nor the Elven clans of the wilds. Kellam Leoric, an Elven wizard, joined the party as a means to more quickly procure historical artifacts for study.   Cinna's memories feature many happy adventures alongside her friends, from their time as mercenaries in Vern. However, her memories of them are not complete.

Cinna the Time Traveler

The biggest shock to Cinna was the realization that she has been dead for approximately 200 years. She knows that she lived in Vern far before the Iris Rebellion, when the original Aberator Dynasty held the throne.   With this in mind, Cinna realized that most of the people she knew--and would be able to help her recover her memories--were already dead. She figured that Kellam Leoric, who was at the time a budding researcher in the Spellweavers' Circle, might be the only survivor from her time. When our heroes entered his wizard's tower, his extensive defenses hinted at his paranoia. Once they explained Cinna's situation to him, he was enraged. Evidently he never wanted to see Cinna again, in any form, as she had broken ties with the adventuring party in a spectacular fashion.   It took some convincing, but our heroes coaxed him into talking with Cinna. Kellam learned that this was not the cruel and cold person that he hated, but the kind and warm person who he had first met centuries ago. This discrepancy suggests that Cinna was somehow the victim of some sinister power, but neither Kellam nor his Genie had any clues as to its nature. The best that they could recommend was to look into her demise as the circumstances around it may provide more information.

Cinna the Glory-seeker

Evidently, she burned her bridges with her former adventuring party. After taking a series of progressively more difficult contracts that were arguably above the party's pay grade, Galron was nearly disintegrated while the adventurers were hunting a Beholder in the Underdark below the Agon Desert. The experience shook him to the core, and he begged Cinna to stop accepting such deadly contracts on their behalf. She refused to back down from any challenges, and left the party in favor of a solo career with a Mercenary Guild--The Silvergard. Kellam recounted the fate of Cinna's former allies:
After our falling out, we took a few contracts here and there. Things deteriorated within the gang, and everyone was at each other's throats more than ever. Galron retreated into scripture and was thinking about traveling south to join the Ilosian Theocracy as a knight. Vakrot started to drink more heavily, often losing days to binge sessions between contracts. Lorinael's easy attitude was replaced by an all-business facade. And me? I considered leaving too. The Spellweavers' Circle made a compelling offer to join as a full-tenure professor. After a particularly vicious row between Galron and Vakrot, we decided to take one more contract for old times' sake, and to provide us with enough funds to go our separate ways.   It was supposed to be a simple one, involving a quick trip to the northern Wildings. We were woefully under-prepared when we encountered a gnoll war band. Exhausted by the rest of the trip, both Lorinael and myself were running low on spells. Galron traded brutal blows with the pack leader before taking a morning star under the chin. The impact of the blow shattered his skull and threw him backwards into a tree. He didn't get up. Vakrot finally slew the creature with his bare hands--I have never seen anyone so angry as he was at that moment--but once the gnolls were slain he broke down into tears. We collected as much of Galron as we could and gave him as proper an Ilosian burial as we could manage in the wilderness. The next morning, Lorinael was gone. I knew she and Galron were close, and I think his death hit her the hardest. Vakrot and I returned to Vern, where we parted ways. I joined the Spellweavers' Circle, and lost track of Vakrot for some time. After a month of no-contact I decided to reach out to him, but never heard back. About a year later I learned that he drank himself to death.
