Harrgar the Dirt-Beards

A Rebelion   And so it came to pass that the dwarven people came to be three, one was given mountains, another deep rock and we the hills that surrounded all of them. We mined the hills, grew crops in the valleys, logged the forest, fished the rivers and cut peat from loamy bogs. We provided the others with resources they desperately needed and in the end they repaid our hard work and dedication by treating us as roughnecks and bumpkins! The War of My Brothers Axe was a just war, the mountain kings had no right to take away our rights and declare us below them! Unfortunately for us we started to loose that war and rather then let the damn Dhargar get their way our Thanes said we would abandon them dwarven empire before the Hargar ever forced us to kneel and they had the bloody right of it!   An Exodus   We could see the writing on the wall pretty damn well and most of our kith and kin followed the Thanes and left Dothmeryji to let the Mountain Kings rot in their empty empire. We went different ways with some of our kin adapting to new lands and forming most of the other younger dwarven nations and settlements. Most of us thought we keep going west scattering folk here and there as they chose to settle.   A Home   When we found Thordukar it was as if Kyron had blessed us with a perfect home. Its mountains were tall and proud, its hills rich with greenry and game and rivers strong and perfect for turning mill wheels and glittered with gold and gems washed down from above. We who had been denied the mountains riches now claimed one of the richest mountain ranges in the world as our own. We set to work building holds and working the land. We drove out and away Orcish plunderers, Goblin raiders, Giant Reavers and our great Thane Lady Vhalki Bronzehelm smote the red dragon Pyredoom who dared to steal our treasure with her divine magic. We have earned and kept our new home with blood and the iron of our will. Thordukar will stand true until the last Hargar draws their last breath and no more dwarven blood can be spilt upon its soil in her defense!   Make a Stand or Take a Fall   Long ago we proved we were different then the Dhargar, we do not fear the outside world, we do not cling so tightly to stubborn stupidity as to prefer loneliness and pride over friendship. We were why the Dwarves Joined the Golden Alliance so long ago and when we met the Te'ra Alflar, Borda Elsa, Gnomes, Halflings and later the more decent members of humanity that called the west home we were happy to trade, make alliances with those who could be trusted and we have stood with them when times were hard and they have stood with us. They call us rowdy, gruff and hard headed, all compliments to most Hargar of course, and we do our best to see the good in our allies hard as that can be with posh elves, wishy washy humans, soft halflings, and gnomes being half-decent.   Grudge not least ye be Grudged   All dwarves are prone to grudges, our oldest legal systems are based on grudges and wergild and those old laws influence dwarven culture to this day. However we Hargar we are a passionate and rowdy folk and when we grudge we grudge hard. When we feud we fued to the last bitter breath and there have been more then a few times when our Lord Thanes have had to step in and end the conflict between two of our clans the hard way. We learn though and understand that blood feuds between two clans is a grudge that hurts us as a people and the Lord Thanes making clans who don't heed this disappear enforces that we settle Grudge-Feuds in court or with trial by combat, some families though take to slimy dishonest methods of hurting the families they feel have wronged them and if they get found out they can risk having the names their ancestors earned stripped from them and become Clanless the worst fate that can befall a dwarf. All grudges must be satisfied but that satisfaction need not be always paid in bloody handed interest.
