Scope
The motivation behind building Talthei
Swords & Sorcery & Sweet Lovin' is an experiment in genre-mashing I don't commonly see - a standard, to the book romance set in a classic, fantasy world. While I may play around with some nifty specialized ideas, they will likely not play a major role in any tale set in this universe.
The goal of the project
I'm creating novels and short stories, specifically romances! I want people to have the classic warm,fuzzy feelings they get with romances or historical romances and see it can happen in a more fantastical setting as well.
Talthei's Unique Selling point
My world focuses on the small stories. While there are countless prophesied heroes, sometimes the apothecary just has a giant crush on the orcish leader that comes into town, and that's a story worth telling too.
Theme
Genre
Magic is reasonably common. While some people channel their magic through religious beliefs, any sufficiently strong core principle can be used to channel magic. Enchanted weapons are somewhat expensive, but not hard to find if you save up for a few months. As the title of the project suggests, think swords and sorcery. No firearms beyond, well, fiery arms.
Reader Experience
I want my world to feel strangely familiar -- common tropes let the reader focus in more on the unique characters and situations.
Reader Tone
Moderate to bright. Going hungry is extremely rare as one of the religions has a tenet that preaches through food gospel, and after a particular revolt, education, at least as far as reading and maths, became much more widespread. While tragedy strikes, it tends to be more mundane, or the occasional magical incident gone awry.
Recurring Themes
1. Everyone is worthy of love and kindness.
2. Kindness and friendliness can be just as powerful and brute force.
3. The small stories are worth telling and learning about.
Character Agency
Character agency can range from low to ultimately very high (world-destroying), but most of the characters I'll be focusing on run from low to moderate, perhaps influential in a town or region.
Drama
Increased presence of lightstingers in Televee's eastern edge due to encroachment of settlements.
Courting/Harvest Festival
Inter-guild conflicts, pretty much a constant. Vying for public funding, public image, etc
Slight unrest that main societal support system is tied to a religion. Typically by those of other religions who feel uncomfortable.
