Chapter 0: Port of Call

The start of the adventure when Aelor lands at Whitehaven Harbor and kicks off the initial events of the Main Plot: Enter the Herald. After dropping their cargo with the dockmaster, eventually the Captain and her first mate Fel'Dun Lewendell make their way to local watering hole The Rusty Anchor to refresh themselves and find a bit of work. The proprietor Liam Fortswallow is happy to provide options, and with new business acquired they wrap up their night at the tavern. On the way back to the ship to rest they have an unfortunate encounter with the local banditry; a loosely organized group of rural outlaws have recently grown bold enough to send patrols into town late at night and the crew of the Starward Sword has to clean up. Finally, the crew arrives safely back at their ship for a restful night on the docks, their chosen payload arrives first thing in the morning, and they set off on the mysterious adventure.
The crew of the Starward Sword has been out to sea for months and are long due for a comfortable night at port. The ship's hull sits low on the early morning tide, its hold full to capacity. Their delivery of ten crates of citrus from the East, thirteen barrels of spices from the South, and nearly a dozen livestock will net the crew a tidy sum when they make port at Whitehaven Harbor. Even better, the documents hidden safely in the captain's quarters will bring in more than all the rest combined.   Captain Aelar Horde is not one to sit on her haunches, however, and has already found herself pondering new opportunities to make a bit of coin. Perhaps a transport of more goods or a simple escort mission, anything to fill the ship's coffers and gain access to even more valuable information. Little does the good captain know that she will soon find herself in the middle of a conflict much larger than anything she could have dreamt...

Plot points/Scenes

Scene 1: Land Ho!

Aelor awakes in her cabin as her crew announce the sight of land on the horizon. Gives the player a chance to check out the ship and Captains quarters, meet the crew including first mate Fel'Dun Lewendell who will be their primary companion for the forseable future. The ship then makes landfall at Whitehaven Harbor, Aelor meets with the dockmaster to deliver their current cargo and receive payment, and eventually makes their way to The Rusty Anchor. This is also an opportunity for the party to explore the city and visit any shops if they desire.

Scene 2: Tavern Vibes

The crew arrives at the tavern to find an unusually busy night. The Captain meets with the proprietor who tells her that there are three high paying escort contracts available, but all three leave for different destinations first thing in the morning, so only one can be chosen. Two of the contracts are in the tavern already, and the third is set to arrive any time. Player can talk to any or all of the contacts, gamble with other patrons in the bar (farkle), and order food and drink. Once a decision has been made on the escort contract, the crew wrap up their night in the tavern and head out to spend a comfortable night in their cabins on the Starward Sword.

Scene 3: Enter the Hand

On their way back to the ship the crew of the Captain and her first mate are accosted by a small group of local bandits. Having been unsuccessful in their exploits earlier in the night, they are more than willing to resort to violence to get what they want. When Aelor and Fel'Dun have dealt with this threat they are free to return to the Starward Sword.

Scene 3a (Optional): Biting the Hand

If the party decides they want to get to the bottom of the brazen outlaws sending patrols into Whitehaven Harbar at night they can question a survivor of the previous encounter, or follow hints from rumors and clues to find a small nearby bandit outpost. Clearing this outpost, or making its existence known to the town guard, will push back the outlaw presence in Whitehaven but also paint a target on Aelor in the eyes of the local outlaw organization.
