Scope

The motivation behind building Svanadel

Homebrew world, looking to tell stories here at some point.  Practice, woodshedding, this is for historical and trial and error purposes.

The goal of the project

Looking for a DnD style campaign. I want to focus rules and interesting places for stories to grow, and events that can happen driven by the players.

Svanadel's Unique Selling point

I like that the nations are not simply racially driven (for the most part). The age of a renaissance is also coming to light. I like a world that people can explore but have fun places to go back to.

Theme

Genre

Fantasy, with a bit of tech peppered in. Magic tends to overpower the progress of tech advance due to redundancy, but the layman can approach tech if they so choose to much easier. The advent of Mythallars (large magical harnesses) and the tinkering with gunpowder has made a curious combination.

Reader Experience

The Ronzfir Empire is strict, but likely safe and organized for anyone visiting, the failings of the Emperor have caused an uneasy blood truce. The Dominion feels more free form, but the disorganization causes those on the outskirts to suffer or take matters into their own hands.

Reader Tone

leans on the brighter side. Wonderous things are more likely to happen, but there are still a plenty unexplored mysteries and danger in the world. Where would adventurers be without an adventure to go out on?

Recurring Themes

The uneasy blood truce between the dominion states and the Ronzfir are a difficult thing for anyone to manage, especially third parties.  The emperor views his failure to impose the Iron Will as a difficult to accept black mark on his reputation.

Character Agency

Characters are able to do what they need. Often, there are many factions to garner favor with or add as rivals. The Dominion state is more rife with factions, as is the Admiralty of Molazzakeni   The empire is more about the emperor's favor with you. While factions exist, the Empire eventually hears and sees all that are of consequence.

Focus

Technology Influence: A matter of a few unique resources that power the steam movement and harnessing arcane energies as a power source. The cycle has come back around, as an old age of magi was able to do this. The ability was forgotten, and new tinkers have been putting this to more practical use like skyships, lightning trains, and similar.
Government Presence & Rule of Law: Where the Ronzfir may seem strict, the people may notice that it manages to get things done and there is a clear path to it. The Dominion States seem like they have more autonomy, but the cultural and political differences from a group of people organizing for safety.  Valamarches of the Dominion States are often known to take a long time to decide on legal rulings, as the precedent has not been set in many cases, and each state has a very delicate balance of what they believe.
Rule of Law: where the Emipre has dedication to one Imperial Mandate, the Dominion States find trouble in cohesion, as the culture of each of the states and the pride of the people find it difficult to unify beyond fighting the Ronzfir.
Social Services Tech Influence

Drama

The emperor has become much more paranoid and determined to impose his rule of law.  Support in the Empire is spotty, but the Reach of Ronzfir would be the last to let that show.
