Unghesvoai - The Snowveil

The tradition celebrates the height of Winter, thought to be brought on as a veil of protection by a strong fae prince, who’s only price was to not be forgotten by the people.   In order to make this happen, the people have traveled across the region of the Dominion States to spread the good word and festivity. The object is a few travel as far as they can to bring the word of the Fae prince to those who haven't heard of him! The veil he created is memorialized by the hiding of gifts and charity throughout the town, often including statues or some of his favorite Pannetone style breads.   Those who are capable tell stories by illusion and manipulation of bonfires outside. The final day is a reenactment of the travelers hounded by the Everlooming Shade that haunted the winters, showing the appearance and strength of the Fae prince.   The festivities are a collaboration of the love of the Frost Prince, including:
  • Song and performance
  • Puppeteers
  • The walks in the dark, showing great faith in his powers
  • Reenactment
  • Fireworks, showing the vibrant displays of color he so enjoys
  • Feasts to celebrate the continuance of life and the gift he has given.
Certain traditions have popped up throughout the world and been localized, like jumping into an icy lake as part of a competition.  This is a largely celebratory and impressive time, and years in which participation is markedly high, the winter is a much more magical and joyful time.  If the Prince goes forgotten, the winter goes much more harshly, as if he intends the deal to continue.   Many of the devoted revelers are more interested in a productive winter, and are known as the Veil Walkers.  They harbor such devotion to this creature that it has blessed some of them with powers in kind, it is said.  Whether by faith, bargain, or some other means, his followers have begun to manifest greater abilities.
