Personal history
Venceslás lived a normal life before he got his powers. He lived by himself and had plenty of friends, he was well liked by his peers and received stellar reviews on his job performance. All in all, there probably wasn't ten people on earth that could say 10 bad words about him. So it was particularly heart wrenching to learn that he had late stage cancer. There was a slim chance at survival if he did chemo, and he wasn't going to go gently.
But there was never good news, he did all the chemo he possibly could and he still was dying. During one of his chemo treatments, he succumbed to cancer while inside the machine. His powers activated before he was fully gone and revived him. It sucked in the chemo from the machine making him strong and healthy, but eventually made him hungry. He developed this taste and smell for people who've gone through chemotherapy. When he got weak again he could smell the chemo on the wind, and would follow it until he found the person. He would then drain the chemo out of their bodies, making him strong again but it's resulted in their relapsing if not death.
But he couldn't stop it, he had to eat so he could feel normal, so he could stay alive.
