Rosa Vitaelo

The flower is known as Rosa Vitaelo, a slight modification of the Latin phrase "rose of life", and it is crucial to the work I do with a variety of creatures. (See the Ruby's Critters segment of this guide for examples.) It is a beautiful plant with red leaves and vibrant flowers and an interesting root structure.   E/N: It's not beautiful, it's kind of unsettling. It's like a rose with extra thorns and a reversal of the usual color scheme. And for some reason it smells like mint.   It's not commonly known on Earth. I suspect this is because it is a relatively recent creation of a lab and thus unknown to most of the world. And also it doesn't do well in any of the usual places. A few deserts can manage to foster the plants. There are some abandoned warehouses and haunted houses that it seems to thrive in. Interestingly, Earth's Moon has a greenhouse where it flourishes in great numbers, contradicting my theories that the vitaelo only does well when isolated from other plants, including itself.   As a purpose to the plant, it's incredibly useful to my work as a bio-geneticist. Or whatever the term for "person who creates new animals by splicing various DNA" is. The leaves of the vitaelo can be ground down into a compound that allows such creations to grow at an exponential rate, and safely. Once the compound wears off, the creature will continue to grow at a normal rate without any damage done to its life cycle. With some refinement, I can even make it so that the compound only operates up until adulthood and then stops, thus preventing premature aging through careless application.     E/N: Ruby doesn't know how she knows what this plant is, or where to find it, or what it does. I suspect it has something to do with her powers and exposure to a large number of geneticists during the vulnerable time period around her amnesia incident. It is entirely likely that the vitaelo is one of their creations.

The story hinted at in the background here is fascinating. A very interesting plant!
