January 8th - Take 1
My attempt to scout out the lab was thwarted by two things. First, the thunderstorm that disrupted my cloaking device with its massive sonic waves and electrical currents in the air. Second, the fact that I was only eight years old and clearly did not belong. Also the powers dampening was in full effect, so I wasn't even thinking fast enough to talk my way out of it.
Fortunately, I was a bedraggled eight year old in a building full of awkward adults. They did their best to comfort me and send me on my way because they were all childless idiots who had no idea how to interact with children and also that they usually didn't wander around on their own like that.
January 8th - Take 2
This time, I had a significant advantage. I knew the storm was coming, I knew that most of the scientists would be gathered around my other self, trying to remove a child from a dangerous building, and I knew how to get around the powers dampener. Mainly, to make my plans in advance so when my mind and senses slowed to a normal level I would be prepared to keep going.
Simple setup that day, really. Open a few doors. Make sure I had the locks checked and set up so I could open them in a hurry. Leaving key items in particular places. Stealing one guy's mug, just because I could. As the thunder roared overhead, I roamed the lab, unimpeded, and I plotted.
