Double January: Day 23 - Fate

(See Author's Note: Double January for background)

January 23rd - Take 1

I still didn't have my exit strategy, I was coming off a miserable three days of flu-like symptoms, and enough of my stuff had gone missing that I was starting to think that fate was conspiring against me. So naturally this is the day that I doubled down, declared January 27th as the day that I would raid the laboratory regardless of whether or not I was ready, and started preparing my equipment. No more random inventions, just locking down what elements I already had.   It's a strategy I should have used much more throughout my life and career as a supervillain.

January 23rd - Take 2

I have, generally speaking, a far broader skillset than the average person. I'm smarter, able to learn faster, adapt quicker, and as such am capable of performing the kinds of jobs that most people consider borderline impossible. However, the more different things I do, the more I am confronted by the fact that a lot of it requires luck, at least on the surface. Lucky enough to be in the right place with the right point of contact, lucky to be healthy on the right day and sick on the one it was best to leave alone. All those things can conspire against someone who in other circumstances would have done just fine.   There are several jobs that I performed during Double January that under normal circumstances would have required college degrees. I just did it, as an eight year old (albeit a very smart one), without a single thought as to whether I was capable or not. Whether or not I would be allowed. This mindset has set me up for success in life (and also some rather spectacular failures that could have been avoided with a little more common sense, but balance in everything).   So perhaps living a good life is less a matter of fate and more a matter of nerve. Something I thought about a lot as I maneuvered a month's worth of destined behavior.
