Basin of Whispers

North of Respite, this marshy grassland always seems clouded in a slight fog. Stranger still, sounds made within echo as if within a massive cavern.
No one in Respite knows why sound behaves this way within the basin, and due to local superstition, expeditions to the place are rare.
During the most recent expedition by Brimir and Syl, the source of these oddities was determined -- a horrid specter of sound and agony. The two barely survived their encounter, and Brimir now suffers terrible pain from the slightest sound.

Geography

A wholly flat floodplain of the nearby Tamno River, the basin of whispers bears no trees and little of geographic interest.

Ecosystem

Most denizens of the basin are amphibians, whose mating calls carry for miles due to the echoes. Natural predators of these amphibians seem rare.

Localized Phenomena

The entire basin, an area encompassing hundreds of square miles, possesses the same strange property: all sound made therein echoes as if underground.

Fauna & Flora

Plants are scarce except for reeds and scrub grass, and the vast majority of local wildlife are small amphibians.
