THE WEAVE
Once strong and impervious, the Weave is now riddled with holes. Wyld energy flows through these holes into reality. This is how magic has come into the world. The ceaseless flow, though small, is enough for people who are in tune with the Wyld to be able to sense and manipulate that energy. All users are somehow able to sense the Wyld, giving belief that they are more Wyld than Wyrd themselves.
The Weave is a barrier created by the Wyrd in an attempt to contain the Wyld. Being one of the oldest creations of the Wyrd means that the Wyrm has had much time to work at destroying it. Wyrdlings and Wyrd Spiders work tirelessly to defend and repair the Weave from the ravages of the Wyrm. Holes do appear though and it is through these holes that Wyld escapes into reality. When this happens, wonderous and often catastrophic events take place.
Magic is nothing more than Wyld energy drawn through the Weave to form an effect on reality. The Caster does not actually create anything, but simply shapes a hole in the Weave to release the Wyld into reality. Spellcasters and Physical Adepts train for years to visualize The Weave and how to open it. Each is called by different names depending on the tradition they follow. Spellsingers, Wizards, Clerics, Bladedancers, Monks and more all train to use magic in their own way, but all are getting there by working The Weave to get to the power contained beyond.
Problems can arise, however. Sometimes, the area of the Weave is already weakened and when it is manipulated, a break can form that releases more Wyld energy that expected. This can have terrible and wonderous consequence's for everyone in the area. Many users have perished in magnificent disasters by this occurrence. Called the Weave, the Web and other names by users of magic because they perceive it as a barrier that traps Wyld energy behind it. Many have also seen the servants of the Wyld that tend the Weave and have described them as ghostly spiders that roam across the Weave repairing it as they go. Usually, these creatures ignore the users, but there have been stories by some of being attacked by these spiders.
