How to Become a Workshop Member

Please don't mistake the "casual" in the name for informal.
While Story: The Casual Writer's Enclave is open to the public, becoming a member of the Enclave Workshop is a deeper commitment and should be understood as a semi-formal encounter. Because I intend to keep this a small, easy-to-manage system, the active, consistent participation of each member is a must. Therefore, if you're not prepared to submit your work to be critiqued, or to write critiques for a group of up to five other members, once a month, then the Enclave Workshop isn't the right fit for you.
Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the Enclave's Rules & Guidelines, Submission Guidelines, and Critique Guidelines. There are a few useful articles you can also read if you're new to joining a writer's group.
Contact Eve directly, or you can message us on the appropriate board here. Introduce yourself, let me know your intent, and whether or not you have experience with giving critiques. I'll offer you the opportunity to critique a sample story in order to gauge how much support or assistance you'll need. Please note that it's perfectly fine to be new to feedback and writers' groups. After a review of your critique, we'll set up an interview. This'll serve as an opportunity to get to know a little more about you and your goals. It will also provide you with the chance to ask any questions and learn more about the group.

The Enclave Hierarchy

  • Founder - The ultimate Den Mother.

  • Organizers - Currently aimed at admin-level responsibilities.

  • Group Guides - The Enclave is organized into groups of five writers, each having an assigned Guide. Group Guides are the "Den Mothers" and are expected to help facilitate the workshop for their group.

  • Community Guides - Community Guides are designated to assist the greater Story community as a whole, but especially newcomers to help them transition into the community as smoothly as possible.

  • Community Members - The writerly community at-large.
