Twilight Station Settlement in Stormfarers | World Anvil

Twilight Station

Located in a lull in the Hypersea, Twilight Station guards the passage to several smaller systems and faraway constellations. It is located on an Iter that is hard enough to traverse that no large Starships can come by. Yet the lull allowed for a large station to be constructed here in 2743 CE, an investment made by unknown parties with an unknown goal.   In the decades since, the station has attracted more population and regular visitors. Nearby dark matter fields attracted plenty of miners, which dock at the station inbetween their mining trips. Some groups sought refuge in systems located past the station, occasionally returning for trade.   Asides from people refusing to work for the Corps, the station's lawless state also has attracted the occasional pirate in need of a place to trade or even launder their illicit gains. Over the years, several Dire Wolves have made sure pirates behaved in this area, as the station is more useful intact than plundered. They keep each other and others in check, with lethal force if needed but not preferred.

Construction

Construction of Twilight Station took several years on account of only smaller starships being able to reach the location. By first focusing on mining capabilities, ships did not have to leave empty-handed. This allowed for a steady flow of incoming materials, as well as the income needed to recruit the needed manpower.

Composition

Nowadays the station consists of a primary trading hub, a dockyard for mining ships, as well as three defense stations. Each of these sections has its own hyperdrive and is small enough to be able to weather the occasional storm. The rougher areas surrounding the station mean that approaching ships are within sight long before they can attack the station.

Population

While varying over time, the population is mostly stable. There is a large variety of folks that make a living on the station itself, such as farmers, mechanics, security, traders and whatnot. Mining crews also have some employees hanging around while the miners do their job. This does not include the hundreds to thousands of people that live in nearby systems and only occasionally drop by.

Leadership

The original and current leadership has always remained a closely guarded secret, though they seem to rule as a council from behind the scenes. Given how many pirates always have been friendly towards the station, many suspect Twilight leadership is basically a Dire Wolf retirement plan.
