Heisting the Gangsters

The Festival of Festivals

For this segment we are going to do a skills check challenge sort of deal without the hard failure chance. Just a lot of mini failures. The assassin team will be engaging attempts against the killer fighters and the festival team will be having fun :D.   Give the choice of events to the festival team and the shenanigans around them.
  • Hog Catch & Slaughter: The Gutsman
It is like the greased pig chase but the teams need to kill the boar. They are given dulled weapons to hunt it with. Team with the biggest boar wins, though all competitors will be treated to the feast that is cooked with the boar. The Gutsman will kill a couple of boar and become disqualified, though he doesn't care. (Prize first dibs on all food, 50 det, the polished tusks of the boar you killed)
  • King of the River: Crunch, Lumberjack
A simple game where wooden posts setup in the water create a playing field very large. Last one standing on the posts is the winner. Lumberjack shouldn't be here unless introducing festival group. Crunch is out of his element because he thought this event was going to be in the water. (Prize 100 det & a silver trident with markings on it)
  • Blind Man's Duel: Captain StrongBeard, Lumberjack
Blindfolded duel tournament where the winner needs to fight the champion duelist. No magic allowed. Lumberjack is at a disadvantage because every strike is a point & positions need to reset, so he can't counter attack effectively. StrongBeard does fairly well as he has limited blind sense using his beard and air movement. (Prize 50 det, if the champion is defeated a +1 dueling raiper. It grants +1 AC to targets that have attacked up in melee before).
  • Pie Eating Contest: Captain Strong Beard, Crunch
A simple pie eating contest but team festival will be set near some folks who are trying to cheat and mess them up. StrongBeard & Crunch both have hearty stomachs and are strong competition. Crunch has a chance to win, Strongbeard doesn't. (Prize is 20 det & a golden pie pin)
  • Acrobats Show: Lumberjack, Captain StrongBeard
The catfolk acrobatics tent will have death defying stunts and amazing acts. Because the act has been interrupted so many times in the past because of wants of audience participation, there is a certain section of the show where a race will occur between anyone who wants to try and beat NeverStill. Strongbeard will not compete, he will be busy stuffing his face with concessions. Lumberjack will and he will have a chance to win. (Prize a catfolk totem of speed [looks by crap but if worm for a month it attunes and increases your speed by 5ft])
  • Competitive Juggling: Lumberjack, Captain StrongBeard
A simple contest of dexterity. Not really meant for the festival group to participate. Strongbeard will show off with his beard and Lumberjack will decimate the professional juggler. (Prize 30 det & a golden juggler's pin)
  • The Ultimate Seeking Game: Gutsman, Crunch
In the woods a giant game of hide and seek will be played. The contestants are sent into the woods to find and collect medallions from volunteers who are hiding. Whoever has the most medallions wins. Crunch will not be very good as he will run loudly through the woods. The Gutsman will have a chance to win, only deterred by his lack of caring. (Prize 100 det & a golden eye pin)
  • The Bazaar: ALL
There are many different items of interest here.

  • The Gutsman Sabotage: His blades will never be allowed on him during an event. So stealing them from his Katino Escorts would be possible. Making him unable to whistle will take away his fear ability. He can't swim. Constitution poison will hurt the most.
  • Captain StrongBeard Sabotage: His beard is the source of his power, if it is cut he can regrow it but not fast enough for the battle. He also is very keen on drinking and eating, basic overindulgence. Any of the physical poisons would work well on him.
  • The Lumberjack Sabotage: Being a monk he is unable to be effected by poison unless he lowers his tolerance. He won't back down from a challenge, never. Getting him to break an arm or something could be helpful.
  • Zokark Crunch Sabotage: His teeth are extremely sharp and powerful, however they are teeth and if they can't cut they will break. Getting dehydrated would also weaken him quite a bit. Strength poison would hurt the most.

    Pit Fight Heist

After a brief planning session the night before, Jerec will give a complete layout of the plan. The Team Muscle will enter the tournament and begin wading through the rounds of combat. Meanwhile Team Sneak will be making their way scouting the place out, looking for ways in and things to exploit while the combat is on. Once it gets to the champions bouts, it will be up to Team Muscle to kick things off with the smoke bombs. Once the bombs go off Team Muscle will exit the structure and meet Team B (That is a stupid name, I override stupid names. You are now Team Possible Explosion) topside and wait for Team Sneak's exit and support them if necessary. Team Sneak will then make their way out with the flight plan records and meet up topside as well. If anything goes wrong use the Call Whistle with a four short toots. If that happens then Team Possible Explosion will do their job with the backup plan. Hopefully causing enough ruckus to get people to go upstairs. If that happens Team Sneak & Muscle will need to meet up so we can escape through the underground. Something I do not wish to happen. The Group will also receive a Call Whistle for each group and a set of googles and face masks for the smoke later.   During the smoke bomb phase of the plan (FYI the smoke bombs will through everyone back because of their force), members of the Moretti family will make their move and begin to kill Katino members in the underground. Team Muscle may or may not see this. When Team Sneak gets to the log room Jerec will insist one of them stays hidden and watches for anyone coming. Tony and a couple goons will walk in, make sure to force the person on watch to let them by and keep quiet. Tony will confront Jerec's little operation and only give up when Jerec has the upper hand and is ready to "Kill" him.   It will then be revealed that Tony and Jerec have a "friendly" relationship where if they are able to get the other person in a compromising "death" situation, the other owes them a favor. The last time they met Tony used that favor to keep the trove of old logs, including the info the team is after. Tony will offer the favor to whoever put him at knife point since it wasn't Jerec who put him in a death situation. But he will offer no resistance to the party taking the info. However at this point the Moretti family members will come in and attack.

    Going Sideways

The Moretti will have a bunch of goons taking on the Katino family with a couple of Spell Men making there way to assassinate Tony for real. Team Muscle should be able to see and hear the fighting but they may be in compromising situations with their current pit fights. The Moretti men in the fight area will be trying to open up the barrier to the rest of the underground for more of their men to be let in. If they get the barrier open many more gangerters will turn the tide against the Katino's.

Components

Hooks

Bar'el's Family, Jerec's connection to the River Kingdom crime families, the New Arc troops amassing in the Temple Square (secretly), the Death Leaf Knife,

Relations

Neutrals/Bystanders

The ReWarvel family of Bar'el's have potential to be allies because of Bar'el's relation to the party. However unless there is an imminent threat to him they will be content as acting as info brokers. Treating the exchange with everyone else as strictly business. Especially if they know what the party plans to do when they actually are in the Katino families HQ.

Adversaries

  • The Katino Gang, in particular Tony Katino, are the enemies of this campaign.
  • Bid "Lumberjack" Lobidago: Some sort of halfling monk with a height complex. Jerec doesn't have any other ideas other than poison which won't work against his monk resistance. Bid is an alcoholic and getting him blasted will give him disadvantage to everything.
  • Captain StrongBeard: Infamous Free Isle Pirate Captain, can control his beard hair as a weapon so recommend destroying it. (Dex Best)
  • The Gutsman: A deadly murderer from the Mivani Territories. His weapons are vicious and stealing them will hurt his fighting style. (Con Best)
  • Zokark "Crunch" of the Steeljaw Raiders: The Steeljaw Raiders are a Sawgrim group who attacks vessels in the ocean known for their ability to tear through boats and armor with their teeth. So breaking his teeth and/or jaw would be best. (Str Best)

Locations

The Giggling Jester (Jerec's Tavern)

The Glitter Lily (Katino HQ & Tavern)

Approaching the tavern you see the it glitter in the light, small crystals inlaid around the large upper windows and set in swirling patterns in the wall. A wide open area has been prepared for those patrons who want to dine and drink out in the warming spring air. Small planters of purple floating lilies decorate the perimeter of the sitting area.   Inside nicely dressed people are enjoy meals are enjoying themselves with friends. hanging from the ceiling a trestles with vines and flowers growing along them, giving a sort of jungle canopy feel to the entire place. A small bar is being worked by an elven woman, though only a couple of people are sitting at it.   A hallway can be seen near the back of the place and it is flanked by two suited gentlemen who are casually talking to one another. On the opposite end but still at the back of the tavern is a staircase that leads upwards, but it is roped off and being supervised by a staff member with a clipboard.   (Upstairs are several private party rooms and further up are guest suites for the Katino's guests. Space for the party rooms are reserved months out.) (Downstairs leads into the basement and through a deeper staircase, the plaza bunker which the Katino Gang has sectioned off to serve as a HQ and blood sport arena.

Festival Grounds

Giant tents and playing kids

Temple Square

The wide open park has several flagstone paths that snake around the groupings of trees around it. The Temple of Mosa and its stained glass windows glittering in the background make a picturesque scene. You see all sorts making their way through the square. Shopkeepers and merchants sitting on stone benches eating meals as they are on break, children playing near their parents as they are having a nice walk, and even some clearly rough and tumble adventurers making their way through the quiet scene on their way to the temple.   The temple is tall and vaulted with staircases that lead up to private meeting rooms that overlook the main nave. In the back of the church is a raised platform with the holy symbol of Mosa prominently displayed. Around the platform are 5 smaller alcoves with the other gods holy symbols on display.

Docks

The ever active docks

Blood Rings

Threats

  • 10% chance of running into New Arc people in Temple Plaza. Unless Jerec is with the party however, there is no real danger.

  • 25% Chance of running into Gangsters who will take an interest with Jerec depending on which gang finds him.

DISCUSSION---Planning Table at Giggling Jester

Jerec looks over the papers and tells the remaining party members. "Okay so we need two more things to do this plan B. A hit list and the ticket passphrase. The passphrase shouldn't be a problem as Barrel can just go ask his parents for it"   --Bar'el will raise protests about this but will concede but will require Molla to come with him. Jerec will be disappointed because he won't be able to teach Molla right now but conceded.--   Jerec will then say "Well then Ms. Duky it looks like you and I will be the ones to be securing the Hit List. A.K.A"

INTERACTION---Walking Around The City

Tiron and Enkidu are both left to wander the city and do whatever they want for a few days. They will be switched to constantly during play.   EVENTS
  • Going to the temple they will find Arc Knight Marco and Stalwart Pauline trying to negotiate with Mediator (Priestess) Iris about gaining access to the temple for the New Arcane Order. Of which she politely refuses, telling them their previous decision still stands. Marco will get visibly angry but calm down and breathe after Pauline says "sir". -- The temple is currently being beautified for the festivities but it is still open for prayer. The temple is to Molla but the other gods have their own small alcoves for prayer.

  • At the docks Tirion will find a lot more indentured servants then when he worked here. Slaving away doing hard labor. It isn't inhuman conditions but their status is easily recognized via "workers cuffs". Metal bands around their wrists marked with the name/symbol of who has "employed" them. A small protest is taking place on the docks by the Dock Workers Guild about jobs.

  • Some merchant tries to flag you down and get them to walk up to his exotic weapons stand. He has whipps braided from "Giant Hair", a clawed kasa made from shark teeth, a highly polished Chakram. "You name it and Pahcum Tinderbright has or can get it."

  • A man ranting to the annoyed masses about "The second coming of Rova is nearly upon us. With his arrival a new age will be born from the ashes of this broken world. Come and learn of the awakening and how to be ready for the new age!". A priest of Mosa walks up and talks to the man who then stops preaching and to follow the man. Not before saying "If you wish to know more come to Temple Square and prepare!". (People like him normally get in trouble with the guard but the priest made a deal to protect him if he only preached in Temple Square. That way the temple could keep an eye on him and possible change his mind)

  • On the west side, The PCs come upon a sobbing woman holding a teenage boy who looks to have been severely beaten. If the PCs ask the woman if they can help, she explains her youngest son was beaten up by a gang of toughs. Of more immediate danger though, is that her oldest son has gone off to exact revenge on them, and she's afraid of what they will do to him.

INTERACTION---ReWarvel Home

On the walk over Bar'el will talk to Molla about how he heard from the crew "you did a great job with the pirates. You all really impressed those sailors. Which is saying something with one of the Arc Knights aboard. I do need to ask you a favor though. Could you please refrain from dying. I know you fou....three have only been traveling with us for only a couple of weeks. It hurts him more than you could probably understand..."   Bar'el is not happy to be home. His family is all loving and happy to see their "Baary" (A nickname of Bar'el's original name Bar. He added the 'el & Re to his name after he left home to separate himself professionally). For all intents and purposes the large gnome family seems to be a pleasant merchant family. They actually are grade A smugglers who run jobs for the families. They are fairly neutral and just deal merchandise.   Bar'el doesn't like his family because of their seeming lack of morals, which is why he left in his early adult life to the Waylan's. The Waylan's and the Warvel's used to work fairly closely together before their slaughter.   Bar'el will actually be furious when he learns his family have renamed the entire family so they still share the family name. And leave the negotiations to Molla upon finding out.   The family will switch gears upon hearing business and be professional about it all. They will want, a delivery made to Guyson, a ship burned down, or a copy of the papers they steal if that is let slip.

ENGAGEMENT---Making The List

Jerec is going to escort The Duke and explain the "plan". Keep referring to her as Ms. Duky (Possible go into a new call with RC). They will be going to a building with a hole in the wall lunch place some Katino guys usually hang out. From them they will try to glean who is fighting.   Jerec is going to send The Duke in to try casual speak/pickpocket information from a couple of Katino Gangster. If he fails Jerec will bail him out with a crowbar.

Festival of Assassination

Using the hit list put together Jerec is able to give descriptions of most of the fighters involved and he currently has "some friends" on the lookout for them.   The List is:
(Str Best)
In between assassination scenes we will switch to Enkidu and Tirion for festival games and events. Use the PDF and the following list for Encounters.
  • A street magician will be having a "street fight" with a wizard. It is all for fun and show.
  • A young girl asks the characters to play a game. Her idea of a game is reading their fortunes through cards. If they agree she gives them being generic things like "Your week is to be full of excitement, Fortune favors your travels". The last card depends on who is participating first. If it is Tirion then it will be the symbol of Mosa but its colors are inverted, with her symbol bright cyan instead of red and the background black instead of white. If it is Enkidu then it will be a silvery card that is crisp mirror, however it doesn't reflect Enkidu's image and shows his party members and disjointed vibrating images. Everyone else appears normally in it. The girl will not know how it got there, the cards were influenced by another entity.
