Thralisk The Interloper

Thralisk is a Githzerai Monk, living on the material plane in Sylvasker. He is a local expert on wildlife and travel, often working as a hunter or guide for those living in local villages or towns. He is fairly well known locally, and is commonly referred to as 'The Interloper'. Thralisk values understanding, familiarity and order. He dislikes cruelty, destruction and being told what to do.   Although hatching on the material plane, Thralisk spent most of his adult life in Limbo. For a few centuries he lived in the great city of contradictions, Shil'Axagrel'th, where he developed his mental prowess expanding the city's borders and refining its definition. His skill in metaphysical elucidative labour was exceptional and soon, after a mere 238 years, Thralisk was invited to join the Ki'uak Cloister at the Monastery of Ki'in.   Ki'in was situated near a rift of uncertainty - a hub of sorts for planer travellers, inter-planer beings and the plain lost. As well as studying under the tutorage of Master S'reluth, the Ki'uak Cloister would offer refuge to those beings passing through Limbo. In doing so, Thralisk heard of many different planes of existence, beings and ways of life.   One morning - or at least, a collective subconscious reckoning of a sunrise - an unusual visitor found themselves thrown in to the chaos of limbo at the rift of uncertainty. Unusual visitors were not uncommon here - all were welcome at Ki'in as long as they did not cause trouble - but this being was particularly problematic. This being was Githyanki.   She was injured upon arrival, barely conscious. The Ki'uak took her in, of course, this was their way, but her residence at Ki'in quickly became a complicated situation. This Githyanki, named Shamith, was a deserter. She had fled her people's navy - a crime that was punishable by death. The Githzerai of Shil'Axegrel'th were strictly opposed to Shamith's presence at Ki'in - relations between the Githyank and Githzerai were strained enough as it was, without Ki'in harbouring a Githyanki fugitive.   The Ki'uak however would not relinquish their patient from their care. Shamith posed them no harm - and so they would ensure no harm would come to her. Shamith remained at the monastery for 6 months, during which time Thralisk found that he had formed quite a bond with the Gith interloper.   Eventually, the Githyanki ran out of patience. Spelljammers stormed Ki'in and many of the Ki'uak were killed. Thralisk and Shamith fled the monastery, managing to escape to the chaos of Limbo. They managed to evade being captured by the Githyanki, but eventually were apprehended by Githzerai authorities. After some deliberation, it was decided that both Thralisk and Shamith would be banished to the material plane.   Portals formed in Limbo are unreliable, and often unstable. Perhaps for this reason, or perhaps because of simple spite, Thralisk and Shamith were separated when banished. Thralisk found himself in the swamps of Sylvasker. He never learned of what became of Shamith.   Thralisk struggled at first to find his place in this new world. The land was unknown to him - unknowable, really. Like the chaos of limbo, which could not be tamed, no matter how strong your will or how deliberate your intention. But as time passed, the interloper began to find his stride.   Thralisk found that here, on the material plane, you could not adapt your surroundings to suit yourself. Rather, you had to adapt yourself to your surroundings. A tree had its own intention, and cared little for the will of a passing Githzerai. A flower, when trod on, would remain trodden on - no matter how much you willed it otherwise.   At first, Thralisk looked down upon the locals living here. Ignorant fools living in a tiny, insignificant world. But the locals accepted him, as long as Thralisk respected the land and caused no trouble. And over time a few Sylvaskens even found themselves thinking of the Interloper as a friend.   Thralisk has spent over 30 years living in Sylvasker. His thirst for knowledge and understanding, paired with his general desire to live apart from the towns and villages, has lead to Thralisk becoming somewhat of an expert of the local lands. To Thralisk, the last 30 years on the material plane feel longer than the 300 that preceded them in Limbo.
