11 - Pedrin's Paradox
General Summary
13th, The Melting EC
Judgement and Watcher fought Xarkon and the re-animated body of New Leaf.
Watcher was killed via disintigration. Judgement was almost killed, but then taken prisoner.
Meanwhile, Mitch and Erchyll went to check on the Kren'Sar. On their way, Erchyll noticed one undead worker standing idle near a wall.
Two people waited at the Kren'Sar. The first was an Arethusan Soldier (the same man present at the fight in the underworks the day before) who invited Mitch to a meeting with Lord Pedrin Khurst Akinlor and Lady Avrethi Akinlor. They were to meet through the Serpent Gate. This soldier also had an apparent dislike for Tieflings.
After this the gnome Roody Broadpeak introduced himself. Gods help us all. Roody joined the crew of the Kren'Sar.
Mitch took Erchyll, Roody and Pitho to meet with the Arethusans. Through the serpent gate they found the Lord and Lady sat and a large banquet table which had been set up on the floating rock of the portal nexus.
There were three gates at the nexus. One lead back to Lirimidium, one to Arethusa and one to Star Crater.
Lord Pedrin explained that he had hired Kardeplak Keshuul, known to him as Dosquebron, to stop the Custodian's plans to open the orb. On Pedrin's behalf, Kardep had hired assassins via the Ujeiren Blood Rite to kill Monlinth. Failing that, Kardep and Two-Soul had reconvened at Lirimidium to again try and kill Molinth (to prevent the work he was conducting for the Custodian). Mitch and Watcher's intervention prevented this.
As a last resort, Pedrin and Avrethi had decided to ask the crew of the Kren'Sar to try and prevent the Custodian's plans - via any means neccessary. In return they would be granted a new airship (as they requested).
Lady Avrethi explained that the wandering star and the orb of Lirimidium were one and the same. Long ago, when the star fell from the sky, the Fel'Gesparen (ancestors of the Arethusans) tried to harness its power before collided with Tezca. The Al'Sect sabotaged these plans and the star fell, forming Star Crater. And so, the Fel'Gesparen built the great plateau (the first steppe of Lirimidium) and on it the statue, known as the Idol. The Fel'Gesparen used their legion of Automatons to move the fallen star to the Idol, which was designed to return the star to the sky. However, the Fel'Gesparen were defeated and driven from Tezca before they could complete this final step.
The Idol remained dormant for centuries while Lirimidium was built around it. Following the Wandering Star's appearance in the sky, the Idol's power returned. This is a paradox - apparently the outcome of the Idol's design is the very thing which activates it in the first place. For the orb to be sent back in to the sky, the orb must already be in the sky. How or why this is the case was not explained.
Mitch agreed to help, if they could.
After the meeting, the crew headed towards Velsar Plaza. On their way, Roody noticed quite a few undead that were standing strangely idle.
Velshar Plaza was locked down following some incident that took place the night before. Erchyll managed to 'suggest' that the guard let them enter. The crew found that the Custodian was missing. Mitch disguised themselves as the Custodian. And then no one knew what was going on.
The crew did not know what had happened the night before.
The guards present were surprised at the Custodian's recovery and new found mobility.
Molinth was shocked to see the Custodian and did not understand how he had returned to his office.
Pitho started playing Wonderwall.
Mitch ordered the bonfire to be dismantled. The crew kept a close eye on Molinth who was storming around angrily, eventually following him back to his workshop where Mitch picked the lock to open the door. The Imp wanred Mitch that Molinth was a devil. Molinth was still angry and confused.
Mitch drew their weapon.
Xarkon was still waiting for someone to come for Judge.
