Sixray

View from Orbit

Sixray is a wild cacaphony of color with yellow, blue, red, orange, and green colors decorating its surface and wispy white clouds scurrying through the atmosphere. Strange storms with multi-colored lightning can be seen scouring the surface. There are no orbital stations surrounding Sixray, only a lonely moon orbiting far away.

Surface

Periodic radiation storms have rendered the surface of Sixray into an inhospitable terrain that is devoid of life near the equator and full of dangerous plants and mutated carnivores near its poles. The weather is warm and humid with storms that bring severe weather, radiation, and magnetic fluxuations. It's oceans are rough, violent, and caustic. There is no peaceful, or safe, place on the surface of the planet.

Population

The population of the planet lives in a domed enclosure that includes a small starport. The population is broken into three groups. The first, approximately 1,000, are those that manage the dome and the small starport. This includes simple services that cater to, and support, the small number of visitors seeking insight from the Temple.   The second, varying greatly, usually numbers about 200, and includes visitors to the planet seeking information from the Temple. These individuals cover a wide scope of wealth levels, from the poor to the rich, as all seek the vision of the Sixray.   The remainder of the population live in the Temple of the Sixray and are adherants to the Way of the Sixray. Only adherants are allowed to live in the temple.

Industry

If there is any industry for Sixray it is tourism generated by those visiting the Temple.

Culture

The planet can be said to have two cultures. The first is the starport residents. Their lives revolve around the tourism industry and the services it supports. There is even a marketing firm that advertises to other systems in the sector trying to attract visitors.   The other culture is the Temple though that is a very closed environment and little is known about their lives.

History

In the early history of the Dalicron sector the Sixray system was simply a navigational waypoint on the hyperroute from Heroy to Renlus. The marginally habitable polar zones fixed the planet as a potential survival point in case of emergencies. Over the centuries a number of settlers and researchers set up camps on Sixray, seeking either some solitude, or to uncover something unique about the planet that would warrant further study.   Settlements rose and fell and researchers searched the planet in vain, until one set of researchers focused on the source of radiation bombarding the planet. Periodic storms of radiation are emitted by the Enfarian nebula and travel, as if aimed, to and across the system and the planet. These storms bathe the planet in a multitude of waves, primarily radiation and magnetic, and cause storms to wrack the planet for years.   Their research continued for centuries and resulted in the creation of the Temple of the Sixray, a cult that believes a range of light, in the indigo range, filtered through the atmosphere of the planet Sixray, provides those attuned to it the power of prescience. Once the Temple was founded there were several independent research attempts to discover whether some quality of the light was affecting the Temple adherent's but no evidence has been found.

Notable Features

Temple of the Sixray

The Temple of the Sixray can be found on the planet Sixray. The planet gained the name from the Temple after is was founded. The Temple is a collection of structures attached to the domed spaceport on the planet. Most of the temple is closed to outsiders and there are layers of access within the temple itself, reserved to those of higher understanding.   The belief in the Sixray originated hundreds of years ago when researchers began investigating the effect of energy storms emitted by the Enfarian nebula on the planet. That research, according to the Temple, provided evidence that focused exposure to the band of the light spectrum around indigo provided those with the proper focus and knowledge, the ability to see into the future.   The Temple is very secretive and there is no reported infiltrations to the depths of the Temple. Prior the rise of the Galactic Empire the Temple was raided several times. Each time the raiders found an empty set of buildings with all wealth and knowledge removed.
