Renlus

View from Orbit

Renlus is a yellow-orange planet with wisps of yellowish-white clouds and moderate polar ice caps. It has several orbiting transfer stations for those ships that cannot withstand the corrosive gases of the planet surface. There are two moons, one that is hot and has no atmosphere and the other that has a small domed colony.

Surface

The surface of Renlus is covered in lakes of corrosive acids and clouds of corrosive gases float across a landscape seared and melted. Occassional acid rainstorms create rivers of acid that run through washes and into the sea. The oceans are devoid of life, composed of a myriad of acids.

Population

The population of the planet lives in sealed environments raised above the landscape. These environments consist of interconnected domes and compartments that form a warren of passageways and corridors. New corridors and compartments appear at random times as new tenants migrate to a city, or a new business appears. The only restriction being that a major thoroughfare cannot be blocked or impeded.
Each city has grown up around a refining plant and spaceport, which is the hub of the city. Most of the cities have spaceports that are capable of modifying, repairing, or even building small to medium starships.
There are no educational facilities within the cities of Renlus though there are private schools that cater to the wealthy of the planet. These are independently funded by their clients.
Medical services are provided by independent companies and are not subsidized by the corporation, though the corporation does have extensive medical facilities for its employees, if they are injured while on the job or have some ailment that would disable them.
Large geothermal plants provide exorbitant power to the cities of the planet. This power is used primarily for the refining operations but excess is made available to the general population at no cost. When power levels dip down the government builds more plants.
The planet is owned and managed by one individual, Florant Kanque. Over fifty years ago Florant bought the planet from the previous owner and has been actively managing it since then. Florant is a colorful and well-liked character, focused only on the production of the production facilities. He takes a light hand on the rest of planetary management, leaving much to the city militias and local mayors. He is swift to engage when there are uprisings or distress amongst the worker population.

Industry

Renlus is responsible for producing a wide range of chemicals from the planet as well as a moderate amount of ores, gems, and crystals that are uncovered through erosion.

Culture

The culture of Renlus is somewhat chaotic and not grounded in historic customs. The cities exist in a state of chaos as businesses and people come and go, and the cities expand in random directions.
Due to the low level a criminal element has evolved on the planet and stretched its claws into the rest of the sector. The organization known as the Crystal Anakkona has made its headquarters on Renlus. It is involved in many types of crime and has agents in most of the planets in the sector. For some reason the CA avoids crimes that involve the potential loss of life. When it first appeared on Renlus it was wreckless and involved in a number of murders. Florant brought in troops and ruthlessly eradicated every member of CA that could be found. It popped up again, was flagged as responsible for murder, and was once again eradicated. This cycle occurred several times until, finally, the instances of death ceased. It is believed that the fear of reprisals by Florant is responsible for the passive nature of CA's crimes.

History

Almost 1,600 years ago explorers began exploring systems off of the Hydian Way. After exploring Diantha and Tallek they came to Renlus and discovered a planet that was not suitable for colonization but seemed to have an abundance of raw materials. The first explorers noted this and sold that information when they returned to more 'civilized' space. Corporations, seeking planets rich in resources kept an eye on Renlus, waiting for the time that nearby worlds would need what it had to offer.
Only 100 years after being surveyed the first corporate miners set down on Renlus and began harvesting its resources. For the first 200 years of settlement the planet consisted of a wide range of entrepreneurs and corporations, all intent on making credits. When the sector was finally annexed into the Galactic Republic the planet was ceded to Duke Kalakleguant who, facing much debt, sold it to a loan shark and vanished into the core worlds. The loan shark, unfamiliar with managing a planet, soon drove it, and himself, deep into debt. He was subsequently murdered due to unpaid debts and the planet fell into the hands of one owner after the other for several centuries. During that time corporations and independents remained on the planet, collecting as many resources as they could.
Finally the ownership of the planet fell into Florants hands and has remained there for the last fifty years.
Renlus is the core of the Renlus Federation. With the fall of the empire and subsequent violence in surrounding sectors the Dalicron sector fell into chaos. Not wanting to lose his planet, and sensing an opportunity, Florant met with the governments of the systems in the southern end of the sector and worked with them to create the Federation.

The Renlus Federation

The Renlus Federation is only two years ago. Founded by Florant Kanque of Renlus the Federation is comprised of ten systems in the southern end of the Dalicron sector. It was created in response to the fall of the Empire and the threat of Dorance Galgorn and the Dalicron Empire. Fearing the iron hand of repression promised by the Empire the southern systems banded together in a loose Federation that is primarily focused on maintaining a ragtag fleet in the Sixray system to deter the Empire from invading. So far this has worked, due to the fleet as well as internal issues within the Empire.
