Mydasos
View from Orbit
Mydasos appears as a green and blue orb with many white clouds flowing across its surface. It has no moons but there is a transit station in orbit that acts as customs control for the planet.Surface
The surface of Mydasos is temperate and covered in rolling planets, thick forests, towering mountains, wide rivers, and broad oceans. Its atmosphere is a bit thin for most species but suits the native Phydolon well.Population
The population of Mydasos primarily the native species known as Phydolon. The Phydolon live in small settlements scattered across the planet. There is a small starport on the planet that interacts with the Phydolon. Since their discovery the natives have been protected by the Dalicron government. The race is not seen as a threat, or a useful supply of workers as they tend to wither and die if removed from their planet involuntarily.Industry
There is no industry on Mydasos.Culture
The culture of Mydasos is based on the lifestyle of the Phydolon.History
For centuries the planet of Mydasos lay undiscovered. Centuries after Foraces and Galach were surveyed and settled the planet still lay unknown. In 500 BBY explorers discovered the planet and thought they'd found a great place to settle. They landed and set up a small settlement. Within the year they encountered their first Phydolon. They were greeted peacefully but communication took some time to develop despite the universal translators possessed by the settlers. The Phydolon relied heavily on their own communication methods, which boardered on telepathy, and the Basic language was difficult for them to learn. Their discovery was reported back to Dalicron and first contact teams were sent out to meet and assess the new race. It didn't take long for the teams to discover that the Phydolon were a simple species that lived simple lives. They had little aspiration to travel beyond their planet or see the galaxy. They had no need for the technology of the Republic, or it's riches, though there were some technology items they found useful. The sector leadership, with input from other Republic governmental agencies, declared the planet a haven for the Phydolon and that further settlement was forbidden. The settlers that were there would not be allowed to expand beyond their current expanse. The initial settlement became the foundation for the current starport and it's small town. When the Galactic Empire took over the sector the planet was ignored. It offered no benefit to the empire and was of no risk. The constraints about settlement were left in place and nobody petitioned to remove them. Under the current empire the same appears to be true. The Grand Marshall is too busy to pay attention to a planet inhabited by primatives.Notable Features
Phydolon
Species
This species is actually two separate entities, the humanoid “Agaran” and the fungal symbiote “Orucytes.” They cannot exist for long without each other, and only when they are united do they collectively become the sentient Phydolon.
This species’ humanoid form stands incredibly tall, usually reaching at least 2 meters in height on average. Their feet are long, possessing three toes lacking toenails. Their arms are also long, and their elbows (and presumably knees) are segmented and end in hands that are oblong, possessing four fingers and nails, unlike their toes. Their bodies are very thin and muscular with dark brown skin which purple at the hands and feet and a much lighter pink near the chest and face.
The Phydolon have very distinctive heads, with massive, wide-set, glossy black eyes with small white pupils. Their noses are flat and they only have very small nostril openings. Their mouths are small and turn down naturally. While the Phydolon do wear clothing, it is very minimal, and what appears to be a shawl and hood on their shoulders are actually constructed from the symbiotic fungi. The fungi can be seen extending down from the sides and the backs of the head, where it has rooted itself into the body. The Orucytes themselves are just a brown fungal growth that could take on amorphous properties.
Both the base creature and fungi are conscious while separated, the humanoid Agaran is semi-sapient, although they cannot achieve true sentience, and in turn, complex intelligent thought, speech, and other advanced activities. It is unclear what would happen if one one the two dies or is forcibly removed from the other, but it is most likely that they would lose sentience and turn back into a beast or fungus respectively.
Lore
Phydolon are few in numbers, as the way they achieve sentience is no simple feat. They are an incredibly rare sight, and even rarer in the outside galaxy, as they rarely leave their marshy planet of Mydasos, and definitely do not have the means to do so. They instead live in small settlements across the world, some in the marshes, forests, or even a few on the planets massive but sparse mountains.
As with their villages and communities, their native language is very primitive. However, because of a mix of the synoptic fungi they possess empathic powers when in close range of each other. They can send their emotions and feelings to other nearby Phydolon, and when one member of the community is sad or elated or frustrated, everyone feels it in waves.
