Kala

From orbit Kala appears as a white orb with string-like clouds swirling around its equator. The band of color around the equator seems less white with random specs of blue and several areas where the gray of small mountain ranges pokes up from the ice.

Surface

The surface of Kala is harsh, constantly swept by fast, frigid winds filled with stinging ice. Warmed by two large volcanoes the surface around the equator is ice with liquid water below.
In a deep valley between two mountain ranges lies the crashed wreckage of a Lucrehulk-class Battleship named the Zilix. The Zilix went missing in the clone wars. No information has been found as to why it came to Kala. It's central command orb was broken loose in the crash and many of the lower decks were crushed.

Population

The meager population of the planet consist of a small group living in a starport built into an equatorial mountain. The residents live a hard life off of infrequent travellers seeking fuel, supplies, or ship repairs and the occassional scavenger that believes they can find something in the wreck of the Zilix.

Industry

There is no industry on Kala.

Culture

Kala has no distinguishable culture. The permanent residents are greedy, ruthless, and opportunists seeking any way to make money, or get food.

History

The Kala system was one of the last in the sector to be surveyed. Almost 1,200 years ago scouting teams entered orbit and sent probes to the surface. They reported that while the surface was barely livable, there was no minerals, chemicals, or other resources that could be easily harvested.
Over the centuries few have visited the planet for any length of time. Imperial units spent some time training in the cold. Researchers studies the fluid dynamics around the equator. But no one stayed for long until the Zilix crashed into the planet.

Notable Features

The Wreck of the Zilix

The Zilix is a Lucrehulk-class Battleship that crashed onto the planet during the clone wars. It lies in a deep, snow covered, valley. The lower decks have been crushed and the globe that was the command section has detached. Over the years the wreck has been the subject of numerous expeditions to loot and salvage material. Some of the expeditions have been successful in returning with valuable items. Others have been attacked by carnivores that call the ship home and droids that still remain active on board. No sign of crew or their bodies has been found, though the bones and bodies of looters have been found.
There is no record of the Zilix entering the system and crashing on the planet. It's last reported location was over 3 sectors away. It disappeared during a jump and was never seen, in space, again.
