Anuin
View from Orbit
Anuin is a blue and green planet with swirling white clouds and small polar caps. It has no moons but the higher orbits are crowded by transfer stations used by traders and corporations to exchange goods between starships and surface shuttles.Surface
The surface of Anuin consists of kilometers upon kilometers of rolling grassy plains occassionally broken up by a small mountain range. It has mild weather but an active rain cycle that gets water across the planet. The oceans of the planet consist of large, peaceful creatures that are not violent unless provoked. The planet is not rich in minerals or other natural resources, other than fertile plains.Population
Despite its almost idealic climate the planet is lightly populated. Many centuries ago the planet was divided up by a number of corporations who use it for farming of agriculture and livestock, selling their goods throughout the sector and to the neighboring sector of Seitia, through Barkhesh. The planet has been divided, by the owning corporations, into twenty sectors. Each of the corporations owns four sectors of somewhat equal production value, whether it be land or sea based agriculture. Most of the residents live in large farming agridomes that move throughout a sector. An agridome is a mobile agricultural harvesting town. It moves about a given sector tending automated farms. Each sector can contain as many as five agridomes, all moving about in different areas. The people living in the agridomes service the equipment, farming and agridome. The agridomes move about to prevent depletion of the land. Each agridome contains basic services for the residents, including a clinic, simple educational resources (technical support of farming equipment), and basic entertainment. Non-agridome settlements exist in the mountainous areas, unreachable or undesired by the corporations. The settlements are basic and rarely contain more than three hundred residents. The live a subsistence live style and trade with the nearby agridomes for basic goods and services.Industry
Agriculture is the primary industry of Anuin. All of the sectors have a range of goods produced, depending on the latitude covered by the sector. Goods are transfered from a small shuttle port on an agridome to the transfer stations in orbit. The Zaltin company owns an agridome that produces bacta. The dome (Z-07 Perdion), and the land it harvests from are heavily protected by land and air forces.Culture
The culture of Anuin is very agrarian, or mechanical, as there are few jobs that aren't involved in the harvesting of product, or the maintenance of the equipment that makes it possible. Each company operates between 18 to 20 agridomes, each with a population of 9-10 thousand. Over 90% of the residents of an agridome are involved in agriculture. The remaining population support everyone else. In order to distract the population the corporations have a large number of bars and cafe's within the agridomes. Over the years the residents of the domes, often communicating with each other, began to develop specialize liqour's and candies, and compete to see who produces the best of each. Every year there is a competiton amongst the agridomes to determine who can make the best liquor (in a wide range of categories) and best candy (also in a wide range of categories). Large quantities are not produced of these goods as the corporations don't want the goods shipped off planet. Some rare treasures do make it off planet and are considered very valuable.History
Over 1600 years ago Anuin was settled by explorers as they came down the Corellian Trade Spine. They found a rich world and began creating settlements. During the next three centuries the planet became covered in small settlements. The explorers weren't looking for agricultural worlds. In 800 BBY, when the system was annexed by the Galactic Republic the governor of the sector, in Dalicron, claimed Anuin for the Republic and sectioned out the planet to the ten different companies that were supporting him. Those in settlements were given the choice of working for the companies, or being paid for their land and leaving. Over time all of the settlers left their farmlands and either left the planet or moved into the mountains, where some families live to this day. Over time the companies owning sectors fell away and were absorbed by others or given to new companies until the current configuration arose, just over 200 years ago.Notable Features
Swandolan Lodge
In the north, at the edge of the polar cap, is the Swandolan Lodge. Built by adventurer and big game hunter Djemba Swandolan in 198 BBY the lodge is the gathering place for The Snow Hunt. Every year, during the height of the worst blizzards the lodge holds a competition to see who can kill the most Wampa's in a five day period. The lodge imports captured Wampa's and lets them loose throughout the year and then charges competitors to hunt and kill them. Quite often the hunters become the hunted. The prize for the most Wampa heads returned is a Veltiss-2 Airspeeder and a Snow Hunt trophy.Grid Location: D-10
