Additional & auxiliary systems

Holographically-Augmented Environmental System

(Also referred to officially with the acronym H.A.E.S, and informally as "the Haze" or "The Haze System.")

The H.A.E.S is a cutting edge system to provide flexibility of purpose and focus to the Empyrean-Class ship, which is operating as a testbed for the technology. The H.A.E.S allows for most of the Interior of the ship to be re-ordered, organized and altered with authorized commands from ranking officers. Anything from adjusting accommodations on fly to be accessible and comfortable to passengers or dignitaries, to quickly restructuring and modifying existing spaces to perform other functions, to reorganizing the layout and compliment of the bridge console arrangement to specific circumstances.

The H.A.E.S may even create and activate holographic ship personnel to assist in emergency situations, making it the largest leap forward in holographic service since the Emergency Medical Hologram project.

The H.A.E.S is limited in function by several layers of safeguards to prevent abuse aboard the ship, these safeguards prevent the ship from being used as a true holodeck outside of assigned areas and only high-ranking officers can access even the most minimal of commands, while low-ranking personnel or civilians may be granted allowance to limited and specific adjustments if deemed necessary.

Cetacean Navigation Labs

The Cetacean Navigation Labs or Cetacean Ops is a department responsible for guidance and navigation research and is conducted by a cetacean crew of twelve Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus gilli), who are supervised by two Takaya’s Whales (Orcinus orca takayai). The Labs are large salt-water filled tanks and communication consoles allow written communication between the aquatic and terrestrial crew members, as well as standard onboard communication systems, which the cetacean ops crew can use as any crewmember. Communication is facilitated by the Universal Translator.

Bio-Neural Gel Packs

Referred to typically as BNGs, Bio-Neural Gel Packs are mounted at strategic locations along the ODN pathways, each BNG consists of an artificial bio-fluid that allows transmission of neural signals. The heart of the BNG is a packet of neural clusters, grown copies of strands similar to those found in the brains of sentient beings. These clusters give the ship’s computer ‘instinctive’ data processing and routing ability as well as allowing the ship’s computer to utilize ‘fuzzy logic’ to speed up probability calculations much as a living, breathing entity would.
