Sunberry Species in Star Tiger | World Anvil

Sunberry

A dwarf shrub confined to acidic soil, carrying edible berries.
The berries have a yellowy orange hue and a sweet, bland taste.
They are not to be confused with sunberries from Terra

Basic Information

Anatomy

A small shrub or trailing vine with leathery ovate leafs (1.8-5.2 cm in length)
New leafs start out dark almost blackish purple before becoming light red as they grow
The flowers grow in clusters and are bell-shaped. They are mostly blue throughout the pedals, ending in a pale, almost white hue.
The plant produces a bright yellow-orange berry with a sweet but bland taste.
The berries are 8-14 mm across their smooth, round surface.

Biological Traits

The sunberry plant is confined to acidic soil, however it does not need much of it, and it's thin woody roots grow far, sticking to rocks.
Usually its roots share space with a local moss, both being some of the only plants thriving on the almost soilless rocky surfaces that cover Argyre.

Genetics and Reproduction

The plant reproduces by cross pollination with each seed carrying a slightly different genetic composition.

Biological Cycle

As the weather gets colder, and before the winter sets in, the plants stop giving berries and instead of losing the leaves, they roll together and darken to a deep burgundy color.
Come spring the leaves slowly unfurl and later flowers blossom, leaving berries as early summer comes, and continuing to leave berries all summer.

I made this world because my mind keeps rambling, and instead of stopping it, I'm riding the wave.
It started with a picture in my mind of a tiger man in a small spacecraft following a giant tiger in space, in the tone of old saturday morning cartoons and the Heavy Metal animated movie.
Then came the idea of his occational ally, a woman in space flying a small asteroid. The more I wrote on her, the more I got intrigued by the past, I deviced.
Right now the flow is focused on her background - namely all related to The Genesis Project.
I do all of the writing and almost all of the drawing myself at this point.
My hope for Star Tiger is a published story or a graphical novel, but my big dream is an animated show.
