Electromagnetic Storms Physical / Metaphysical Law in Star Tiger | World Anvil

Electromagnetic Storms

Electromagnetic Storms are volatile "clouds" in space, that takes out all electric devices within and in worst cases starts ripping metal appart.
The exact origin of these are unknown, but it is surmised, that they form from small bursts of energy from spacestations or larger spacecrafts, that build-up as they travel through space.
Most larger crafts have emergency measures, they call into effect as the cloud is spotted, including shutting off as many electric devices possible to minimize damage to them, hunkering down and hoping for the best, while the storm passes.
Hopefully the storm is mild and the damage fixable.
The Storm intensity scales from one to six based on how much destruction it is expected to bring.

Manifestation

A visible "storm cloud" floating through space, carrying an often light blue or yellow tint.
It twists and convulses as it travels and grows in size.
Usually visible from far away, many crafts can often avoid them, but I they're docked or engaged in combat, an electromagnetic storm can sneak up on you.
Flying too close while passing them can easily be risky, as the cloud can spread through sudden bursts.

Localization

They are uncommon, but can be encountered in all travelled corners of space.
A few times an electromagnetic storm has passed through larger ships, spaceports or -stations, and there is not much to do to change its course.
"This is an emergency. Category 2 electromagnetic storm approaching. Calmy go to the nearest shelter, make sure all metallic objects are secured and shut off all electronical devices. The storm is calculated to arrive in 12.36 minutes and have passed in 46.21 minutes. These are only estimates. Warning repeat. This is an emergency..."

I made this world because my mind keeps rambling, and instead of stopping it, I'm riding the wave.
It started with a picture in my mind of a tiger man in a small spacecraft following a giant tiger in space, in the tone of old saturday morning cartoons and the Heavy Metal animated movie.
Then came the idea of his occational ally, a woman in space flying a small asteroid. The more I wrote on her, the more I got intrigued by the past, I deviced.
Right now the flow is focused on her background - namely all related to The Genesis Project.
I do all of the writing and almost all of the drawing myself at this point.
My hope for Star Tiger is a published story or a graphical novel, but my big dream is an animated show.
